Default How far would you travel....

To get a nice hatchback? Most of the one's I am looking at are at least 250 miles away and some farther. There are absolutely none in my area. Would you be willing to travel that far for a car you have never driven? What should I do?

Honestly i wouldn't travel very far for a hatch unless there is something really special about it. I just traveled almost 1600 miles round trip for my m3. It was a risk but it turned out to be worth it.

If it was that far away, I'd try to find a few more that I could look at while I was out there, that's a lot of miles to find out someones idea of "clean" and "in good condition" is nothing like yours.

Personally, I'd go no more than 3 hours away. Longer than that and you're taking a huge risk if it breaks down and you gotta pay the tow bill. Plus its easier to get someone to ride along.

I have my 93 Accord on Autotrader.com and some fuckwad keeps calling from ATLANTA. I'm in OHIO. The car is nothing special. It has rust. He is flying in and taking a taxi 60 miles for my $1400 car. This just goes to show you that some people are ******* crazy.

There are ZERO decent hatches where I live, so I started looking on the net.

Well, I found a really nice black 92 Si with 62k for sale in Raleigh NC. I called the guy and he said he would pay me for my gas and for my trouble if I thought the car was not in the condition he claimed. My wife and I drove from Georgia one weekend to get it and we just made a road trip weekend out of it. SO I guess I drove 900 miles round trip...but we did have a good time while we were gone

I drove something like 1000 miles for mine. I live in Chicago and the car was in Raleigh NC too. There were absolutly no nice hatches here because of the salted roads in the winter. For me, it was worth the trip, but it could have easily gone the other way.

If live in TN, and with the availability of them here (EJ6) I would travel as far as California if it was a really good deal.

I live in S.california and I'm planning to buy this hatchback from New Jersey within in the next week or so, but I'm not driving there; having the car shipped to me.

Dayum man, where are all of you from? Just come to KC and you will find plenty of decent hatches for sale. So many here its a virus. In my neighborhood alone within a 1mile radius there is bout 15-20 hatches. 2 which belongs to me and 3 are my cousins and 4 are friends. And if you go to the dealers around here they will have at least one hatch on the lot. But these are the small lots that no one really sees. I just drive around and see them on the lot.

Good luck w/ your decision.

Thanks for the opinions. I think I'll stick to the 3 hour radius. I have found a few nice ones in that vicinity, but most of them get bought up before I can do anything. I am currently in talks with 3 people right now. Maybe I'll get one! Hope so...I'm getting tired of waiting!

I am really not sure how far I would drive. Depends on whether or not I could get a trailer and the severity of the deal. Most deals that sound too good to be true, are and those would be the ones you would want to go farther for.

it really depends on how bad you want the car. i have a couple of friends who have gone over 1000 miles to by 15 year old VW's. but it was the car they wanted.
now i mean 2 different trips, for 2 different cars. both about 1k away!

Email the seller in this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...12094

I got mine from him and I was happy with it. Tell him the guy from Chicago sent you!

ChiBoy, you got your ride from Jim in Raliegh too? That guy can find some some really nice hatches up there. When I got mine he had a really nice Supra TT for sale too and I wish I had the cash for that one instead.
