Default D16Z6 engine beautification

basically, i guess i just needed something to work on so I made some of my old oily, dirty underhood parts look better then new...

I was swapping my old cracked exhuast manifold to a brand new one, and got stuck...so I started a different project. I painted the valve cover Flat black, and sanded down the lettering with fine grit paper, painted the bolt heads and oil cap aluminum, and also painted the exhuast manifold heat shield aluminum(not shown).

Cant finish the manifold install until i get a new o2 sensor in the morning...but heres some pictures of the valve cover, bolts and oil cap...along with the new manifold hanging on the studs.

Cant decide if I want to use the heat shield or not, I think it looks kind of nice. I also plan on using the remnants of a hose techniques kit from my other car to further clean up. I dont want to get really carried away, this motor is only temporary.

I forgot to mention...anyone that thinks that D16 VTEC makes no difference...drive one with malfuntioning Vtec...yeah it really blows.

After the rpm where the crossover should be the engine just will not rev through the higher rpm range. This is especially noticable in 3rd gear and up. The cracked manifold and old o2 were throwing an engine code and disabling all my fun. At least I hope thats all that was causing it...i will know for sure tommorrow.

I dont even know what they are worth...I know a long block d16 goes for 750 from HMO. I didnt pay that, I got raped ...but everything under the hood was replaced too, hoses belts and such so I cant complain.

Make an offer I guess. I got it with 70k miles....dont plan on putting too much on it. Dont know how long unti I actually have the money for the swap though. Ill most definitely be posting when I order the motor, so keep an eye out. Im definitely interested in selling what Im not using.

Im not done cleaning yet, i just did the painting tonight. Ill get more into it next weekend.

The manifold is brand new, I havent painted it...thats just the way it came. cast iron I would imagine.

And as for Vtec...it most definitely was not working. It stopped the other day when the temporary weld on the old manifold let go, and toasted the o2 sensor. Ive drivn the car with and without it, and there is a noticable top end difference. It will pull strong to the top of 3rd and beginning of 4th with vtec. now it just pulls timing and dumps fuel at the mid point of 3rd gear(or so it feels)...really sucks.

because its kind of in the way of the h22 destined to go between the strut towers.

H22 D16 . Oh and also on the lettering on your valve cover its alot easier to rub a little vasoline on them before you paint and then wipe the vasoline off. Bam then you got some nice shinny letter with minimal work.

1. Dont turn this into a motor vs. motor war...thats stupid...everyone has preferences.

2. Im fully aware of how far a d16 can go...it just isnt my thing. My last car made over 200 ft/lbs to the wheels (albeit 600lbs heavier)...and im just not into the power band of the smaller motors. The h22 was chosen due to the fact it makes plenty of torque and is cheaper then a B18C5. That and something about absolutely filling the engine bay just turns me on.

And my ABS is on the fritz...hasnt worked since I bought it and i havent gotten around to diagnosing it yet. its on the list of things to do though. could super low brake pads or improperly bled lines be to blame? i laready have new pads, just havent gotten around to installing yet. Already checked all the fuses and relays...so i know they are ok.
