Default PROJECT b20/vtec motor done, in car, running...but....

well the car is strong as hell below about 5500 rpm's a huge torque monster i can feel a big *** difference, but when ever it goes into vtec it feels like it hits a pocket of air and feels like it fall son it face, like it takes alot longer to get from 56-7800 than from 1500-5500, i dont get it, we thought it was the fuel pump so we put in a new fuel pump, still did it, maybe caouse it be cause i am running a stock LS fuel pressure reg?, i have an adjustable but i lost the part for it...help me out here guys, if i can fix this, it will be strong as hell, deffinetly a mid-high 13 second car
thanks
i will post pics of the motor 2mar0 in the car

sounds like a lack of fuel in higher rpms ... id check that first. also check ur dist. & plugs while ur at it.

fuel pressure is at 30 psi at idle right now- can anyone estimate what it should be?

30 seems low. I am a B20 VTEC turbo set up and at idle it is 48 psi.

yes increase the fuel pressure, b20vtec motors are fuel monsters.

Crank up the fuel pressure. Mines 40 @ idle w/ my B20. Still needs to be about 43psi for me, take a few runs and see what you come up with,

fuel pressure at 42 now... MAJOR difference. Top end and idle smoothed out- it is like a different car.

yes i would say get a FPR

well i've got it set to about 40 at idle, i've got a subaru wrx stock fuel pump in there, i think either 195 or 205 a major difference from my stock DX one, 90 to 205...then i have my stock b16a injectors....god damn i love the torque in that car, top end pulls hard as hell, its like nothing i've felt all motor

Good deal, glad the fuel pressure trick worked

If you have extra cash, get a 310cc injectors.

Factory B series vtec motors idle at 40-42psi. 30psi was definately to low, hence why the car fell flat on its face at high RPM's.

Also running such low fuel pressure can hurt the engine because it is running was to lean. Good to see you fixed it.

I had the same exact problem with my ls/vtec at first. 310's cleared that right up

ever think about getting a Holley Fuel pump ? thats what my friend is running on his b20setup and what head are you using ? if its the b16 there will be no power, you will need to get the GSR head for better flowing.

try this new fuel pump

I disagree. The B16 head on a B20block, especially high compression, has proven itself a good combo.

b16 head no power?

bwwaha ha ha. that's funny. I would also like to hear your reasoning. The b16 head and gsr head flow almost exactly the same.

do you see anything up there on his post saying that he have High compression pistons ? no... with the GSR head it bumps the compression a little higher on the stock pistons.
