Default Insurance Payout for Stolen Teg?

Those of you who have had your Integra's stolen/stripped...

Were you satisfied with the insurance settlement? It's not looking like they are going to find my GS-R (missing 1 week and 2 days). I'm worried that the insurance company isn't going to give me what the vehicle was worth. I even e-mailed my adjuster the best pictures of my car to show her the car was in mint condition. I am hoping I can get some extra $ because of the OEM kit I installed(since it is a factory option). What experiences have you guys had?

i had my 98 GS stolen last december and got the full money back for it cuz i only drove the car for like 2 months..and the insurance company gave us a refund of the same amount that we had bouth the car for - $500 deductible....but, we got the deductible money from The Club. So it worked out fine for us...but sad that i never got to see that teg again.

I was told that they would cover aftermarket parts if i had pictures/receipts.

Most insurance companies are like this. If you have a car worth $8k plus $10k of mods and it gets totaled, you'll only get back $8k. That's because you're only paying them to insure a car worth $8k not $18k. If you call them and tell them to insure you're car with the mods they will insure you for $18k and your rates will go up accordingly. It's a hugh risk driving a heavily modded car without the additional insurance.

I had my '98 GSR (51k miles) stolen this summer - found stripped and totalled by my insurance company (Allstate). They researched and came up with the KBB private party value of only $10,400. I had just purchased it a year ago from an Acura dealer as an Acura Certified Preowned Vehicle. I fought this for a couple weeks and performed a lot of research on my own (including a nice letter from the General Manager of the Acura dealership where I bought my car). Well, the work paid off - they adjusted the value to $12,385 (20% higher!!) giving me $2,000 + the extra tax payoff in my pocket.

In short - if you're not happy with their estimate - fight it! It IS negotiable. I get the feeling that many insurance adjustors give lowball estimates and 90% of the public accept them. The other 10% probably argue and get it raised a little bit.

I hope your car is safe and sound, but it probably isn't. If you need any of the research I did for pricing my '98 GSR, let me know - maybe I can fax some stuff over to you.

Not totally true. My car was broken into and was also tragically wrecked this year. I got a lot of bullshit from the claims adjuster because my wheels were $400 a piece, my suspension $250 a corner and my head unit was $350. Well, after thouroughly reviewing my policy and all its restrictions, I found absolutely nothing about having to claim aftermarket parts with the insurance company. Not one word. I got my money (almost $4000 to fix my car after the wreck!) with no problems.

**** 'em. The way I see it, if they want to rape me month after month, then I am more than entitled to rape them a few times a year...

This insurance company is USAA, BTW.

I had my JL's, amp and deck stolen and got most of the $$ back for them.

Bottom line, take tons of pictures (you know you want to) and keep your receits.

I totally agree with this. Fight it if you're not satisfied, but you also need to do your own research and you should keep all your receipts.

My 99 GS-R sedan was totaled in April this year. The car was parked on the street when this drunk **** slammed into the rear of my car and totaled it. I fought with his insurance company for three months to get what I felt was reasonable. Farmers Insurance (the drunk ****'s insurance co.) gave me an initial settlement of just over $11,000 plus I keep the car. I fought with them, and they gave in and offered just a tad over $16,000 plus I keep the car.

ugh Allstate is evil! Someone just hit and run my Acura Legend while it was parked on the street...and they said that I'm not covered by my policy which included "comprehensive" but no "collision". I always thought comprehensive included this kind of thing but actually that kind of coverage is considered "collision coverage" After spending 2k a year "fully" insuring three cars for three years. Insurance agents will say anything just to sell you a policy, but you're forced to have to figure the whole policy out yourself unless you have a lawyer explain the whole thing for your. They're screwing the public to sh*t promising the world and giving us nothing. High insurance rates aren't caused by accidents, they're caused by crappy state laws that allow insurance companies to get away with highway robbery. Commiting fraud against your insurance is illegal, but your insurance commiting fraud against you is not. All they have to say is "you're an idiot" and that's that......should it really be a crime to be uninformed? Is it really right to charge less informed people more money than people who are informed?

this is the company that screwed me. I hope people steer away from this company and Allstate. I got tricked with all their fake "discounts" on my policy, and believed that I was fully covered when i was actually not. I was thinking of switching agents, but found out that it wouldn't matter because company policy dictates that the original agent that got the contract will still receive the commission from the policy. Insurance agents, used car salesmen, and telemarketers....their systems of business needs to just go away. There should be a national consumer campaign against these scumbags that outright lie to everyone in order to make money.

Safeco Ins Co gave me a payout of $11,900 for my 98 GS-R with 70,000 miles. Of course I was screwed on the aftermarket parts I had on the car, but I knew that going in. I found a 97 GS-R with 77K miles for sale at Carmax for $12,500 (Carmax is non-haggle!) so I faxed it over to Safeco. I am hoping to get some more $ out of my settlement.

So what insurance co. covers aftermarket parts? I heard that all state or state farm will cover them for additional monthly payment. Basically like for every $$$$ aftermarket part they charge you a certain every month.

But lately, I've been reading alot of people here on HT hating state farm saying they got raped.

So you think insurance rates go up because of insurance fraud? You have a lot to learn. But being that I'm the smart guy here you probably wouldn't know anything about that type of stuff. Talk about bent over a barrel and askin' for more from the insurance companies. Long story short: wonder why insurance rates have been on the rise the last couple years? Natural disasters? Nah. Fraud? Nah. To compensate for their losses in stock investments during the tech bubble bust. They have to make money somehow right? Auto insurance industry is the biggest ripoff right there along home owners insurance. Then again 2 wrongs don't make a right so you or I will never do anything stupid (ie fraud) and think its justifiable.

If you put an additional $11000 in aftermarket modifications, I hope you were keen to amend your insurance coverage plan to cover them. Else, i wouldnt gripe about not getting paid for items not covered by the insurance company...

Yeah, getting a car stolen is bad enough but being bitter and tossing accusations and hate is a far worse fate mate. Just know youre not alone, and that others have the same experience. Be smart and get the add-on's covered in the policy. There will be a premium to pay but well worth it in the end.

Cheers
