What MPG should I get on a 92 VX?
Thats really not what you should get, city should be 45mpg and highway should be 56mpg but thats driving like you're an old man. When i recorded I usaully got above 40mpg. Also consider that your engine isn't band new but still you can get better. There are alot of things that can cause poor gas milage, you're probably are running rich. Thats probably not your olny problem.
You are right about the engine, it has 133k on it. Those miles were put on by an old lady too.
How do you tell if the vtec-e is not kicking in? I wonder if that can cause the engine to have lower mpg?

Not trying to jack your thread but I have another question. I had a shitty tranny on my VX so I bought a new one. I got a deal on a 97 EX tranny. Having an EX tranny would lower the MPG because it has shorter gears correct?
well I get 33mpg with a 5spd EX coupe, mostly city driving, I shift at 3k or lower.
I'd do a tune-up. Plugs, air filter, check the wires and cap.

my old vx engine had 155k on it, 133k isnt really that bad especially with an old woman driving it, then agian she could have neglected the engine. I couldn't tell when vtec-e hit in mine
but you know what is really fun... put the p28 ecu(ex/si) in it for a while and you will rev the hell out of that engine but v-tec hit REALLY hard in that car. It like a slug hitting warp speed! hahhaha Any your stay in 2nd until like 90 mph!
Is the engine light on?

speaking of running rich, o2 sensor is something else to check. that will definitely kill your mileage. but in my experience the computer will throw codes and a CEL when that goes.

Just replaced o2 sensor
Just replaced o2 sensor
Just stay in a higher gear than usual like instead of 2nd at 40 be in 3rd but yeah you probably will espeacially on highway(dont quote me on that)
You know lugging your engine is bad for it.(four-cylinders have no torque) I personally think that having good acceleration is an important safety feature to a car.

R/g that old lady
I got all of her maintanence records when I bought it. She got ripped on a lot of stuff, but kept the car up pretty well.
R/g CEL
No lights after my O2 sensor was replaced.

I think a 10 or 12 gallon but I forgot
Does anyone else have insight to why he could be getting bad milage.
Come on lets get the people who know thier stuff to start talking.

MPG vs Gallons per tank?
Ok, back on topic.
Anyone else have a suggestion? This is truly puzzling me now. I would love to get 40+ mpg out of this car.

If I where you I would order a jdm d15b7, you can get them around 600 (engine/tranny) and the tranny is the same as a ex/si tranny.
oh yeah it has 130 hp and is faster than a d16z6 would be in your car. It would be low milage too. It get over 30 miles to the gallon or i've heard that.

ok, when you fill your car up, press the tripometer. The next time you fill your car up, make note of the gallons of gas you put into the car. Divide this number by the number of miles on you tripometer to get mpg.
Please leave this thread alone DSeriesBKilla unless you can add anything to the discussion.
Thanks

Technically you aren't getting a true answer b/c there is still an unknown amount of fuel in the tank if you do it that way Mr. Smary Pants.....
ok youre right but we were trying not to get this post too off topic from.
Other people will just start to ask to many questions and the person who started it gets screwed.
but yeah you're right that question was ok to ask.
Having a bad tranny can cuase poor milage, check to see if your oil isnt low ethier (engine and tranny).
