How can I tell if my JDM B16 swap is a 92-95 or a 96-00? I have no ecu and the harness is cut where I cant tell by the connectors. I know it is not an 88-91.

But that can mean anything, my friend has one that says 93 but his is a 94 model, and another friend has one that says 95 and it is a 95, Are there any distinguishing features that the OBD2 has that the OBD1 has not?
thats because the engines are made 1 year before the model year of the car
that is the only way to disguingish the year. it is correct.

This is not always so, like I said in my previous post, on eof my friends has a 1994 year model car but it has a 93 stamp on it, and another friend has a 95 year model car and it has a 95 stamp on it. I need to know if there are any distinguishing marks between OBD1 and OBD2 motors or tranny's.
are you telling me im wrong?
dude.
98% of motors are made 1 YEAR BEFORE THE CAR. there are a few same year motors but they are RARE.
just look at the year that will answer your question.

Well I am telling you that you are wrong, where you got that 98% figure no one will know. Back to the question I origionally had, ARE THERE ANY DISTINGUISHING FEATURES ON A JDM B16 BETWEEN OBD1 AND OBD2? Thanks.

The stamp on the motor says 95. So this can mean it is either out of a 95 year model car or maybe even out of a 96. That is why i am asking for any little differences that there may be in the OBD1's and 2's.

Then my motor is an OBD1 and my stamp says 95. So it must have been one of the last OBD1 motors produced since it did not go into the 96 model. Thanks for nothin Kamin.

Helping me out, he wasnt even answering my question. I was asking for distinguishing features between OBD1 and OBD2 JDM B16's. Not how to tell what year it was. JDMDA9 was very helpful in this, and I thanked him.

This will help a little, but if you look on the topside of the head, look for this '30'.
This will designate a 92+ B16A head.
Pre 92 heads don't have this '30' insignia, also GSR heads have a '72' in the same spot:
If you own an OBD2 JDM B16A engine, there will be be no VTEC pressure switch (green plug) on the VTEC solenoid, and like the others have said, look right above the #4 exhaust port for the year of head as seen here:

wrong.
Only 96+ JDM OBD2 B-series engine do NOT have a VTPS.
All JDM 89-95 B-series engine have a VTPS.

Hmmm....JDMDA9 told me up in the post that the OBD1's have square injector wire plugs, and that OBD2 ones have an oval shaped one. I have square one's, no green vtec plug and my block says 95 and came with an OBD1 ecu. So i am very confused as to the OBD version it is.

Also on another message board someone told me that if there are 2 plugs next to the distributor it is an OBD1 and if there is only 1 then it is an OBD2.

That is correct. I would also advise not to flame people who have tried helping you out.

Kamin told you how to find the year.
And if you put the 2 together, The year will tell you what obd the head/b16 is.

Mine says 95 on the block, that could mean it was either for the last of the 95 models or it was made for the newer 96 OBD2 models. That is why I am asking. Thanks.
