I don't want to go crazy with HID's or projectors, I just want to keep my stock headlights. What are the best performing bulbs (high and low) that I can put in for maximum distance, clarity and brightness. What kind are they? What wattage are they? What color are they? and where can I find them? Also with a higher wattage bulb do I risk melting the headlight harness? Thanks for your help!
they come in both 9005 and 9006.
What I did was take a dremel tool and "modify" the bulb sockets so that the 9005's (high beams) fit in my low beam housing. There for I have highbeam bulbs in both low and high beam housing.
It's the different of having 1700 lumens focused on the road as opposed to 1000. That's a 70% increase. Since the light is "focused" on the road I never get anyone flashing me indicating my lights are too bright.
I would like to put in the silverstars though.

So basically rice_classic, you have 2 1700 lumen bulbs is each housing? How difficult is it to modify the bulb housing to get it to fit into the low beam plug?

You just gave me an idea for my next mod. My headlights suck so something brighter would be good.

haha, same here, i just started. I had an old headlight with bulbs in my basement, so im trying it out with a spare set first, before i start hacking at my good bulbs.
If you want to see the little write up im doing, go here. http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/4gtech.html

So you really like the output of those? I was skeptical because they are so reasonably priced?<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 7PSI CRX »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Thanks for all your help guys, I decided to do the 9005 conversion. I used the GE Super Blue 9005SB's and performed the conversion on those. Two twin paks cost $37.88 at Walmart. The conversion took all of ten minutes between the cutting and installation. I used those small super sharp wire cutters that you buy at Radio Shack to cut the plastic harness guides inside the bulb housing and the plastic ear on top and then I used a hobby knife to trim them the rest of the way down. The GE 9005SB's are really bright white, There is no blue tint in the light. The bulbs have a blue tint on them, But all it does is filter out the yellow light. They look and perform really nicely.
Thank's

so you can notice quite a bit of a difference now?? when i got one of my 9005 bulbs put in today, and compared it with the 9006 bulb on the other side of the car, just by looking at them i could tell there was some difference. cant wait to get out to do some night driving now to see how much better they are.
also, just out of curiousity, what write up did u use for the conversion?

This is intriguing me. I might go to Walmart and get me a set of these tomorrow. I'll make a How-To for it also, my camera is better than any of the ones used in the other How-To so I should be able to have more clear pictures.

I also did this mod on all my EF's untill I had to get H4H bulbs. Big difference I love how bright my lights are now. Those dark high speed journeys aren't so scary any more. I am just using cheap *** Eurolite 9005 Hiper White bulbs. They are nice and bright.

I used the write up that you posted above, http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/4gtech.html
I just used some of my own creativity to make it much easier to perform to conversion as listed above in my last post. Yes, They are definitly much brighter especially at night. Before I moved my intake and battery out of the way so I could get at the headlight bulbs on the passenger side I compared the drivers side headlight with the new bulbs to the passenger side with the original ones and "WOW" Big difference in brightness when you see them next to each other.
Thanks again for all of your help.

haha, are u
on my camera?? lol
i tried to get the best pics i could, but they're odd pictures to take, like the inside of the plug, hard to get light in there for the pic, oh well. post your how-to up here too, i wanna see if u did anything differently. and i'll probably be picking up some brighter bulbs soon too, but for now, i'll just use these ones.

It will probably be the similar, there are only 3 steps. My camera has a "focus" feature and some thing called "EV" so I can get really close to things and even if its dark I can turn a **** and light up the picture.

well my 9006 Piaa Xtreme are really bright imagine how much brighter it would be if I got the 9005 Piaa Xtreme
haha, it'd probably be pretty bright. Thats what im probably gonna end up doing. I mean they're already noticibly brighter with just the stock 9005 bulbs, imagine what it would be like with a high-output bulb
