Default <>-- HAELP!! --<> crx to gsr cluster pinouts and what not

Ok im doing the gsr cluster swap into a 88 hf. I know you can put a 90-91 cluster into a 88-89 and i know you can put a gsr into a 90-91 so i know this can work somehow. The gsr cluster wires don't match with this install site at all though. http://www.angelfire.com/dc/oregonimport/gsr.html

The pinouts on the plugs i have look like this:

gsr Connector B / 16 Pin -

01-red/blue
02-gray/red
03-yellow/white
04-blue/white
05-empty
06-orange
07-green
08-blue
09-red
10-red/black
11-black/yellow
12-empty
13-green/blue
14-green/yellow
15-red/green
16-green/red

gsr Connector C / 13 Pin -

01-empty
02-pink
03-empty
04-yellow
05-red/blue
06-black
07-yellow/green
08-empty
09-white/blue
10-empty
11-yellow/orange
12-green/yellow
13-blue

gsr Connector A? (pin read from clip on bottom)/ 5 Pin -

01-blue
02-empty
03-black
04-empty
05-yellow

I found another site that is a little closer and has the wire function, but its still not quite the same. http://www.fifthgearonline.com...2.htm

My crx pinouts look like this:

88 crx hf Connector ? / 5 Pin
01-black
02-green/yellow
03-yellow
04-black/red
05-red

88 crx hf Connector 709 / 12 Pin

01-green/blue
02-yellow
03-yellow/white
04-yellow/orange
05-green/yellow
06-red/black
07-red
08-empty
09-black/yellow
10-white/blue
11-blue
12-yellow/green

88 crx hf Connector 710 / 8 Pin

01-black
02-yellow/orange
03-empty
04-green/red
05-blue/yellow
06-red/blue
07-green/black
08-green/yellow

I have no idea what the wires do. Does anyone have a manual or diagram that lists this? Are the color/function the same between the 90-91 and 88-89, if so i guess I could just match the colors. I dunno i get really confused when it comes to wireing. Some one help me out. Thanks

go here:

in the HOW-TOs / aftermarket/ look for: 88-89 to 90-91 Cluster swap
it'll show you the difference in the wiring.

thanks man. But for other people there are some errors maybe on his page. I have a set of 90-91 crx plugs and on his site(note -he lists the wires in reverse order of the pin numbers):

on the 90-91 crx gauge cluster the first 12 pin is correct except for pin 6 which is the Green/Red Driver Door light, on my plug the wire is Blue/yellow.

on the 90-91 8 pin he has the 5th pin listed as vacant, on my plug it is blue/red.

on the 88-89 the 12 pin matches mine exactly.

on the 88-89 the 8 pin he has the 5th pin listed as vacant, on mine it is a blue/yellow wire.

So here is my updated thingy:

88 crx hf Connector 709 / 12 Pin

01-green/blue - left turn signal
02-yellow - switched power
03-yellow/white - fuel gauge
04-yellow/red - speed sensor
05-green/orange - check engine light
06-red/black - dash lights
07-red - dash lights
08-empty
09-black/yellow - switched power
10-white/blue - Low voltage
11-blue - tach
12-yellow/green - water temp gauge

88 crx hf Connector 710 / 8 Pin

01-black - ground
02-yellow/red - oil light
03-empty
04-green/red - emergency brake light
05-blue/yellow - ? .....Driver Door Light MAYBE
06-red/blue - high beam light
07-green/black - hatch light
08-green/yellow - right turn signal

"B6 Orange Speedometer Splice in with signal from vss in the tranny

B11 Black/White color varies VSS Run the electronic Vss to here and also attach to the orange where b6 is ran.. "

Il put pics up in a min

i went back and triple checked everything and found that i had wired the vss signal and 12v backwards... now the speedo moves but isnt accurate and falls down when i shift and moves around.... that and my battery light blinks on and off like its reading the vss. blinks fast when im going fast blinks slow when im going slow... where did i go wrong

its from left to right black, black/yellow, orange. I took a wild guess and wired it as black ground, black/yellow power, orange signal since pin6 is speedo and on my plug its orange. My motor is b18a and the vss i got was 90% sure off a b18b. The main problem im having is that the gsr cluster plugs are somewhat different from the diagram on your page and its also different from this page http://www.fifthgearonline.com...2.htm so im just kind of guessing with the color/pin number as to where it connects to my crx cluster wires. As for example on your site it said to connect gsr b1 red/blue to crx yellow/white for the fuel gauge and that did nothing so i hooked up pin 3 on gsr which is yellow/white (not yellow/black -seatbelt as it says on your diagram ) to the crx yellow/white and the gauge stared working. I made a doc before i started and wrote down everything i was going to hook up cause i dont have a printer, sort of a ghetto wiring diagram in paint. Heres the txt of how my gsr plugs look like:

gsr Connector B / 16 Pin -

01-red/blue - ? - fuel gauge
02-gray/red - ?
03-yellow/white - ? - fuel
04-blue/white -
05-empty - nothing
06-orange - speedometer
07-green - ? one of these was trunk light
08-blue - ? one of these was trunk light
09-red - brightness
10-red/black - gauge lights
11-black/white - vss
12-empty - nothing
13-green/blue - ? - left turn signal
14-green/yellow - Right turn signal
15-red/green - Not available?
16-green/red - Emergency brakes

gsr Connector C / 13 Pin -

01-empty - nothing
02-pink - Washer Fluid Level - Canada Only
03-empty - nothing
04-yellow - dimmer
05-red/blue - fuel gauge
06-black - ground
07-yellow/green - tempature
08-empty - nothing
09-white/blue - battery
10-empty - nothing
11-yellow/red - oil pressure
12-green/orange - check engine light
13-blue - tachometer

before hand what i started with:

small connector

big connector

not used connector?

Also you said everything works on your cluster which wire is for the highbeam light on the gsr plug, but I know which wire it is for the crx. I remember reading its possible with no wiring diagram how do you follow the circit? And if i was to do this:

would i just run my yellow/red crx speed sensor wire to pin 6 speedometer on the gsr plug? then what do i do with pin 11 (vss)

After trying a few somewhat random things I unspliced the black/white vss wire and now it seems to work accordingly. One last thing I cant figure out is the highbeams light. I know which wire on the crx side is for brights I tried everyother wire left on the gsr plugs and none of them lit up the hbeam light. At this point in time I dont really care, I think im just going to assemble it

I finaly got EVERYTHING to work then after I taped everything up I turned on the car and my headlights, radio, insturment lights, taillights, licence lights, and maybe some other things stoped working. I checked the fuses with a test light and there was no light on either side of the fuse. How this is somehow related to the cluster install is beyone me... anyone thats ever ran into a problem like this plz help me out

well im 17 and have never wired anything before in my life so this was quite a challenge. and by the responses i doubt more than 2-3 people have done this before. I just posed all this stuff for others that try it have some more information. Was it worth it? Hell yes. Would i do it again? Probobly not.

my engine

fatty fat front mount

tried to make the install clean looking

had to rewire and move the small 90-91 defroster plug to the left side since my car is 88-89 and it uses a bigger plug and is on the right side

whoa gsr gauges y0

this picture is kinda weak since im using my digital camcorder it looks alot brighter/better in person trust me

even the highbeams work woooo woooo

hmmm i really should clean up after myself (this mess looks worse in person)

Can this still be done on a vehicle that has a non-exsistent VSS?

My GSR cluster I picked up has 4 connectors on it. A yellow 5 pin a 16 pin blue, a 10 pin blue and a 13 pin blue. Still searching for those details.
