I KNOW A FEW OF YOU HAVE CONVERTED YOUR TEGS. REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS TO ITR'S. IS THEYRE ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW , ANY SURPRISES? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYPICS?
OMG this install is a biznitch on older tegs because one or both of the lower arm's bolts will be stuck in the bushings or in the welded nuts (which is a problem, how do you remove it without ******' up the threads?).
OR you can have fun and your ABS line nuts can shear off, all four of them.
Even then it gets worse when the old struts mountign bolts are fused in the bushing in the LCA, which is no big deal if you arent using the shock, but its a BIG deal if you dont have extra bolts for that spot for the new ones.
OH I almost forgot the endlink bolts can be stuck as well... thats a good last minute PITA!
Well let me give you a hint... if a bolt like those above here will not come out easily, do NOT apply too much force, you will just shear the head off and have to drill it out and probably not be oin center and that is a BIG MESS.
try drilling from the threaded end to make the bolt end a sort of tube-with-threads, this frees up some stress and the heat generated can help break the bonds as well. It worked for me several times and can be used before you shear the head off for much cleaner bolt removal which will save the threads like those on the LCA fo rthe endlink bolts and like those on the inside of the spindle where the LCA ataches.
don't ask how I know these things....
really a good mod though, I like my ITR shocks a lot and they were off of a 98 ITR as well, so they had seen 30+k miles easily before I got to try them.
I guess if you have a hookup on the arms ($100 or less per pair) and have the shocks already or have a hookup, then do it, and if you plan on getting JDM suspension sometime, then its a must.
HTH.
OUT WITH THE OLD!!!!!!!!

well i apologize to chris for pissing him off with the caps lock. well why the hell wold i want to change the control arms withouthaving the intention of changing the rest of the suspension necessary to convert to type r?
anyhoo i appreciate the real response owen...mycar is brand new with 4000 miles on it so i dont think any of the bolts would be "frozen" in place do u?

I bet a few may be tough to get out but they will notbe rusted in place liek mine were on my 1994 GSR thats for sure!
good luck!
hey in your profile/sig you have ITR headers.. it is a header, one header, not headerS.. just a frinedly FYI. HeaderS would be two separate units, like on a V6 or V8. just a pet peeve of mine.

WELL,
I was worried you had two motors in your teg.. I have heard rumors of a twin motored CRX in Texas or somewhere south that east up the CRX competition.
um, anyhow. yeah.

Owen: I noticed in that pic of the GS-R LCA that you have a bushing in one and nothing in the other. Mind telling me how you got the bushing off? I broke off both the heads and welded shock nuts on both of my LCAs...yet I still can't pound the bolt out because it's been welded to the bushing. PLUS, it's kinda hard to take it off since the rubber bushing simply absorbs the impact.
tell me about it! I hear ya!
same problemmo with aLmoSt-vtec's install last weekend. baaaaaaaaad day(s).
the bushin gon my LCA just came out soem time during th espringtime, and I never noticed it until I did my ITR swaybar install. Saw it half in and half out, thats when I decided to go ITR LCA.
aLmoSt-vtec had problems and eneded up buyin' new teg LCA's instead of going thru the bushing press fit / stuck bolt issue.
We tried for a long time to drill out the bolt an deven that wasnt getting it out of the LCA bushing!
yeah it can be a real pain.
a machine shop may be able to press out the old and then press in a new bushing.
good luck with your LCAs!

You think I can melt or burn the rubber off? That's probably what I'm gonna do...and pound the new bushings on. I don't want to spend anymore money...I've spent a ridiculous amount already just to order those two bushings. While pressing out the old ones shouldn't be too much, I'm trying to be as thrifty as possible.
Sigh...a week without driving your car and seeing it on jackstands everyday can make you really depressed.
