Default Broken timing belt!

Shifted from 5th to 4th going about 2,000 rpms and I heard a weird noise and lost power. Pulled to the side of the road popped the hood and my ******* timing belt broke! This really sucks. I hope I got lucky and didn't bend any vavles. I hope I didn't **** up my pistons either. My engine only had 150 miles since complete rebuild. I think my tensioner gave out. Should've replaced it from the beginning. This really sucks. I wish hondas were not interference engines.

Did you actually take the head off and check the valves or pistons? A friend of mine did the same thing in his D16Z6, and he took the head off and looked at it and said, none were bent, slapped it back together, ran it for months. Then he sold it to this guy, who hooked up ZEX to it, and literally melted half of an exhaust valve due to blow-by.
Even if they are bent the slightest **** hair you should replace them, if you plan on keeping the motor.

Has anyone ever broken a timing belt and not bent a valve(s)? I didn't hear any bad noises or anything and my engine didn't stop violently or anything. I'm hoping myabe the deep valve releifs on my pistons helped my valves survive. God I hope.

damn dude, sucks to be you,j/k. actually I had the belt tensioner come apart on me. Bearings seized on the BT and the bearing cover came off and fell to the bottom of the timing belt cover and just ate the TB all up.. Caught it before it broke though..

Yes you can break a timing belt w/out bending a valve. It all depends if the combustion chamber is big enough for valves and the piston. Best way to tell is by doing a leakdown test. HTH

yep

in fact, a friend of a friend had this happen a couple weeks ago, he got VERY lucky. 3% leakdown on all 4 cylinders. engine checked out perfect.
