Default More Hytech Header pics (w/ Comptech)

I thought it would interesting to see just how big of a difference there is between the Hytech header and a "standard" USDM type header. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Looks like you will run into lots of fitting problems with the hytech... The distance of two bolts at the collector looks wider than the comptech.. And boy, the hytech looks like Andre the Giant and the Comptech looks like Holk Hogan..

Yeas, the collector on the Comptech is only 2". It's designed to mate to the puny USDM stock cat. The Hytech is 2.5", so no way you can get buy without upgrading the cat also. I also thought it was interesting that the Hytech's primaries merge at about the same place that the Comptech's secondaries do! I believe Austin measured the total length difference at 8.5". Hell. it's just big all around.

I'll post the pics of the mods neccasary to the ITR tranny service cover too, so everyone can see what they need to cut.

damn, with the hytech being so long, you could just mate it to the catback exhaust and have no cat or test pipe!

j/k, but it is long as hell!

Won't you have to extend the primary o2 sensor wires so that it can plug in ok?

Or maybe just plug the 2nd o2 sensor in there? lol That's about where the o2 sensor for the cat would plug in... maybe?

I'm 'n that hytech header!

Mike,
You had to one-up me after I posted the other picks didn't you .

What we had to shorten the b-pipe by 8 1/2", and had to do some shaving to the inspection cover for the flywheel area...you're going to need to extend the primary O2 sensor by about 6-7 inches, and the secondary needs to be extended by 4-5 inches.

The welds are there, but they're done so well, you can barely see them.

Sweet!

That's hilarious, I wouldn't have guessed those "could" both fit on the same car...

That Hytech is a work of art. Are you sure you don't want to hang it up on your wall instead? The wall install would be much easier than all the fabricating you're going to have to do to get it on your car.

Thanks for the pics and enjoy that header. Let us know how much it helps your performance.

as John would say: he prefers that you put it on the car and not on a wall or on a mount.

how's the ground clearance?

my fiend Roger had a Mugen 4-1 and all it took was one speed bump and it became a 4-0.25.

nice dents on the primaries...now that sucker is mounted on the garage wall at Top Power in Toronto (not at the new Richmond Hill location...Mike P where are you?)

ITR 99 - John ended up giving me a deal since my header ended up being the show queen. It was still $1300, but there was no extra charge for the polishing. Normally I think that runs another $300. It actually gets polished twice. First the individual pieces then the finished product.

ninjaman - I know it's so pretty, I am kind of not lloking forward to firing it up! At least I've taken lots of pictures to remember it by.

NiNeD8iNtEgTyPeR1109 - Were you able to pick up the cat for me? I'll give you a ring to see when we can meet up. Thanks!

Nice, but it is always easier for header maker if they don't have to worry about having their header bolt on directly onto OEM parts!! Look at how much longer the Hytech header is, there is no way in hell that it can bolt on to an OEM exhaust system, JDM or USDM!!
I wonder what header and exhaust system will Mugen or Spoon have if they don't have to worry about having it bolt on to the stock cat and exhaust!!

because he's not compromising making the most power he can to fit a restrictive exhaust. Makes perfect sense to me

around stock locations = around stock power

lengthening the header rocks the torque about the peak torque as a fulcrum and causes the low end torque to be higher than usual

Adding steps along the header will result in multiple peak torques of individual diameters being summed along the rpm range for a wider torque curve.

Adding antireversion chambers in the primaries maintains ehaust gas velocity leaving out of the exhaust port and assists in pulling in intake charge at cam overlap.

Any good local muffler shop can adjust the exhaust length.

If you settle for what everyone else has you stay stuck in the herd. If you want to separate yourself from the crowd , then accept that you need to do some of your own adjusting and fitment aslong as it isn't too much of a hassle...needing special equipment you don't have access to...as I said the local muffler shop can fit your exhaust and O2 sensor length issues.

cheers

Hey Marlene, no problem. I'm used to John's schedule by now. At least you were able to get your car dynoed. That makes all the difference. Well, we will have to compare our beauties at the next meet!
