The Mitsubishi 14B should be easily attainable, and can make upwards of 200whp easily. 250whp is pushing it on the 1.6L.

Otherwise, the T3's from the junkyards should be plenty.

Do more research and you'll find out alot more. Here's a quick link: Homemadeturbo.com

I paid $100 for a Warner IHI turbo, its flowcharts put it somewhere below a T3/T04e but i've only heard that... it came off a 3.6L V6 (averaging 15lbs) and is goin on a B16 (averaging 8-9lbs) in the near future

Geez, you're in for a real treat then!

And a used 14B in "good" condition can be had for around $100-150. But remember that they come off of 90-94 Eclipses/Talons/Lasers...so look over the turbo carefully if you can. Or if you want to spend a little insurance, get it rebuilt for another $100 or so.

.50 or .60 trim T3 with .48 turbine AR should be in the running, as well. Pretty much all the 80-something factory turbo cars ran one, or some variant.

90-94 DSM's with manual transmissions had the 14b turbo, which is capable of around 300 chp.

90-94 DSM's with automatic transmissions had the 13b turbo, which is capable of more like 250 chp.

95-99 DSM's had a Garrett T-25 turbo with a mitsu turbine housing, capable of somewhere around 275 chp.

Try to find a 14b if you can. I just got another one for my car from a local junkyard for $50.

I just sold a customer a 14b for $50, perfect condition. You can also find second gen T25s pretty cheap, but they run hotter than 14bs.

Good luck.
