ACURA FOR SERVICE IS BOGUS!!
Listen to this, I bring in my 01 GSR this morning for warranty work,
pitted/rusted rear rotors hoping they would machine them for me and that ever popular sunroof rattling when open, which all it needs is lubrication.
RIGHT???
Now, get this. I just get a call from them saying that 1 of the tech's and a mechanic were both on a road test in the car and they heard no rattle..
also, as for the rear rotors being rusted they say its NORMAL and they cant even machine them for me as there is nothing to claim for warranty..
Now, I don't know what they are trying to pull, but can anyone tell me whats going on here?

Your rotors are under the wear and tear clause and will NEVER be covered no matter how much you bitch and moan!! And most rotors i've seen rust including Brembo Slotted and drilled As for your sunroof ... if they don't hear it they can't fix it. Acura mechanics get paid per job so there is no reason they WOULDN'T want to fix it. Good luck!
That's been my experience with a few shops like brake check, midas etc. They go deaf when you hear noises.
Interesting,

Exactly. If they don't hear the noise, how do they know what needs fixing? I would wait a little and if it gets worse then bring it in again. Also make sure that your visit and complaint about the rattle is entered into the computer so that it's recorded in case it gets worse after your warranty is over. And also, don't everyone's rotors rust? And then it should come off after you drive and hit the brakes. I've parked my car, gone inside, and come out after 2 minutes and seen my front rotors covered with rust if the weather conditions are right. I wouldn't worry too much about rust, it's normal.

all rotors rust when sitting...at least that's what i've seen. mine rust in a matter of minutes when it has been wet. apply the brakes from any speed and the rust will disappear.

Guys,
maybe im not explaining this properly.
Its the rear rotors...RIGHT ON THE SURFACE and its not really rust..I dont know what it is, but the surface doesnt look like the fronts..nice and smooth.
I had the car for over a month now and picked up the car like that hoping it would go away under constant braking, but it doesnt...gee, i should just take a pic and show you guys what im talking about. then you can tell me what that is or if anyone has had that.
Update: As for my sunroof rattle, i took a guy out for a drive and he heard it..told me he never did seen/heard this type of problem on an integra.. (I thought this was a common problem for tegs..??)
so, him and another tech were playing with it and told me to bring in the car again next day so they can spend the ENTIRE DAY with it, take it all apart and see what needs to be ordered and what not. Yes, all this for a sunroof..Thats what i thought, but hey its warranty and its very annoying when you drive, even with the music blasting..
So, as I type, my sunroof must be in a million pieces right now.

in my experience with acura dealerships they are far from shady. give them the bennefit of the doubt. they are not going to pass up a chance to make money whether it is from warantee work or from regular work.
I used to work at a dealership in trim and electrical, my specialty was noises and ****, that is what I did. sometimes a car would come in and we would drive it for 45 minutes trying to locate the noise the customer was discribing, sometimes we found it sometimes we didn't. a lot of the time we would go pick up the customer and drive them around and have them point it out to us. sometimes we fixed the wrong rattle! noises are a totally different beast than any other kind of work in a shop, they don't set off a code in the computer, they don't leave tell tale marks on the spark plugs, they don't do anything but make noises intermitently.
for the brakes, they are complete wear items, there is no warantee (well, I think it lasts for 2k miles for the first buyer off the lot, maybe not even that) for premature wear, there is no warantee for pitting, there is no warantee. if you want it fixed, buy new rotors, if it is even a problem. why not get them resurfaced? each time metal is trimmed off of that rotor you lose breaking power, and that shudder that the dealer corrected, has a higher chance of reocurring and reocurring worse, because you have less metal to dissapate the heat to, sure it may only be .020" that is cut off, but think about it, that is over the whole surface area, on both sides of the rotor. if you have any problems replace the rotors. my acura dealer won't even give customers the option to have their rotors turned, they will dirrect them to a brake shop.
anyway, I am done defending the dealers, good luck with that sunroof and the rear rotors!

Hey Sam..Since you did rattles, I have this rattle in my Hatch that sounds like a pin is rolling around in there. It only really does it when its hot outside. I've placed a peice of cloth in b/w the hatch and the latch and that seemed to have worked for a bit before it came back..Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
If the rear rotors are messed up, and the car is under warranty, then acura should fix them.
They are full of it about the sunroof. Tell them to look up the TSB "moonroof chatters when opening". See if that refreshes their memory.
When I took my 94 GSR to LEITH ACURA IN CARY,NC THAT SUCKS ***, the service manager claimed to have never heard of an a-pipe rattle. I tell him about the TSB and he said he would look it up or something lame. 2 minutes later, one of the service shop assistants told me that they saw the a-pipe rattle all the time and it was common to fix them. Whatever.
They do need to take out the headliner to access the sunroof mechanicals.
