Default seatbelt mounting location

i have a '91 hatchback standard. it has seatbelts mounted on the doors. people get out of my car and slam the door on them because they don't recoil. its ******* annoying. anyway my question is, did other year/model 4th gens have them mounted on the doors? if so, has anyone done a conversion? thanks in advance.

Hmm, me'thinks 1988 models have them mounted on the pillars instead of the doors, and also I've heard canadian models never had the door mounted stuff.

They were designed never to be unbuckled.

for the hatch, 88-89 had the pillar mounted seat belts. the 90-91 hatches had door mounted seat belts.

i'm not sure if the 90-91s have the mount points for the seat belts. you might want to try looking behind your rear interior panels to see if there are mounts there...

Any 1990 - 1991 passenger car has a "passive" seat belt system of some sort. It was the law for these 2 years (thank God they came to their senses after that)

As was said above, you're supposed to leave them hooked up and crawl out from under them.

The 88-89 had the belts mounted to the pillar, but they also had a larger pillar area. the 90-91 have larger doors to accomitate for the belts. I don't think you can put the 88-89 belts on to a 90-91, but I'd love to know for sure.

You could always install a roll cage and a 5-point haness....
