Default OT: Any one faced an E34 M5 on a road course or at an autoX?

What the topic said. I saw an E34 M5 (88-9?) on the free way today. I know they had 315HP/250lb-ft 3.6L engine... but the amzing thing was the way it was able to weaver through the traffic like a slot car!?! I was amazed to say the least... I mean that thing weighs over 3500lbs, but the way it moves is just amazing. Anyone raced one at a track??

I just can't picture any m5 owners wanting to take their cars to the track. But then again, if you're going to drop that much $ into a car then you might as well get your money's worth. It's an amazing car regardless though.

There are several young Asians i've seen...I mean early twenties driving M5s....I saw thjem accelerate on a rolling 15mph on the highway to burst out a slow car that block the open road up front. All I can say it...my jaw was at its maximum flexibility for 30 seconds! BTW...it's the newest M5s.

http://www.bmwm5.com/

E34 88-95
E39 98>

315 hp @ 6900 is more than enough power to take care of just about any stock car on a road course.

I have not seen an actual E34 M5 on track but the 540i (w/6 speed) is the same but different.

My dad used to have a older M5 (80's). It had a lot of power but was a box. He ended up selling it because the mods he had done to it really made it a bitch to drive everyday. So, he bought a 98 M3 (4 door). The M5 did really well at the BMW Nationals and my dad won the Nationals at Mid Ohio.........Good car for it's time!

A long time ago I raced the last gen M5 on the highway and managed to pull on him and hang with him. Mind you, I had much less mods back then than I do now.
while racing, the M5 would switch lanes and pull ahead, I'd do the same and be able to pull along side him, but didnt have enough oomppphhhh to pass him....but anyway, it was fun. The one time I got slaughtered on the highway was when I raced a SL600 convertible......that thing killed me. No Contest
