Default Anti-towing device

So I always hear you guys saying most anti-theft devices won't work because they can tow it. Well check this.

They can still pull it up on a flat bed. When I wrecked my GSR, only 1 of the tires was turning when they pulled it up on the truck. It went up on the truck just as fast as if the wheels were turning. If they want it bad enought, they will get it.

What if you took off the tow hooks from the vehicle? Wouldn't it make it a bit harder to pull the car up onto the flatbed?

Since the lock that you have shown does not protect the lug nuts, you could just simply remove the wheel and replace.

And at $350, you might as well buy the boot that local enforcements actually you. Although those are defeatable too.

They can just hook it to the frame, cross member, a-arm, .... anything that is some what solid can be used to pull it up on a truck. Sure they might bend some stuff, but if they are just taking it to strip it, I dont think they care about bending the cross member a little bit.

Clifford makes an anti-tow sensor that detects inclination changes as little as 1 degree and works even if the car is initially parked on a hill. It would be a good addition to a paging/GPS alarm system like Alpine's Mobile Mayday system (which I have).

DEI makes on that interfaces with Clifford.
Cost: ~$250.
Coverage: ~1 mile radius (kinda small if you ask me)

Default how about these?

Would these wheel boots fare any better?

As for the pager, I think having a 1 mile radius IS MORE than enough. It takes the average male to run a mile in 6-7 minutes. Which is more than enough time for the theif to have already driven you car away.

Yeah, you could use (editGO-jacks(/edit) on ANY of those and have the car on a flatbad with a whopping 15-30 second delay.

how safe are these to wheel finishes?

i can't imagine what it could be like driving off and forgetting it's still on... i still do that with my disc lock on my gsxr sometimes... the results are predictable

apparently, Alpine has discontinued selling the Mobile Mayday (probably due to the cost). ATX technologies, the company that supplies the monitoring service for Mobile MayDay is still in operation though (they also do all the OnStar monitoring).

Boomerang is another GPS based car recovery system you might look into

Teken - If I were to send you $200, do you think you can send me the wheel boot that you use at work and then just tell your repo centre that somebody drove away with it somehow?

Those alarm pagers scare me. I read an article once, some guys pager went off so he ran to his car, the thief had a gun and shot him dead and stole the car. You are better off not letting the thief know you are there and call the police.
