How much is my race car worth?
Some guy saw it parked at my parents' house and wanted to know if it was for sale and how much. I managed to sell my Neon when it wasn't even for sale in a similar situation, and, though I wasn't thinking of selling, I wonder what would be a fair price to tell the guy (fair to me, not necessarily him, hehe!). Here are the specs:
1988 Civic CX hatch
Ex-Honda Michelin Challenge Series
still street registered, has 150 000 original km (= 95000 miles)
bumpers and fenders updated to look like a 91 (not by me)
stripped interior, dash intact except for radio, door trim intact
6-point chromoly roll cage + door bars
Momo seat (the cheap one, I forget the name)
5-point Sabelt, 2002
Civic VX wheels 13x5, 12 of them, 4 brand new RA1's 205-60-13 (used one weekend where it mostly rained) and 4 half used Hankook Z2000 206-60-13 (3rd set have garbage tires on them)
Also 4 Compomotive 14x6 street wheels with OEM Firestones 185-65-14
custom exhaust, 2 1/4, no cat, adjustable Supertrapp "muffler"
H&R race springs
KYB GR-2 shocks (2002)
D16Z6 (1993 Si SOHC vtec)
Si tranny, freshly rebuilt 2 weeks ago
lightened OEM flywheel
OMP front strut bar
Hawk pads
1999 brake carriers to accomodate wider discs
Aeroquip braided brakes lines (fronts in 2002)
window net, OMP hood pins, fire extinguisher
current EMRA road race log book (was ST4, should be ST3 with new engine)
Tremblant road race series log-booked
many, many spare parts, including the original HMCS DX engine with 145 000 km
some rust, repaired by me but by no means professionally, rocker panels in poor condition, no rust anywhere structural
ohterwise pretty good condition
1 pole position and 2 trophies in 4 race weekends, class podium at every outing
weighs 2000 pounds almost exactly with no driver
I have a spare driver's door which I've gutted to save 30 pounds and I have a mint rear hatch (bought so I could make a lexan rear window in the old hatch which does not have functional defrost)
Any estimates/ideas?

Funny, I was just having this conversation with Drew earlier. Things are worth what someone will pay for them and there's really no way around that. There's really no right or wrong answer.
Whats it worth for you to let it go?
Ask him to make you the offer since you werent planning on selling.

Isn't the formula: Take what you have spent on it/in it, divide that number by 2, divide that number by 3, and then add 100 bucks?
Seriously, what is it worth to *you* is what should determine the value.
That, or just go look on improvedtouring.com

I called the guy back and told him 7000$CAD, which would allow me not to lose any money, and even make a little... He and his buddy want to share a car and they were going to talk it over. This would be about in line with IT prices, but the car is not IT legal... however it is street legal, which can be attractive to some who don't have a trailer and tow vehicle... Also, it is legal for both local series (almost anything with a cage is) + EMRA (so you can go to cool tracks like WG and Lime Rock).

No, the formula is:
Price of the new racecar you want to buy - whatever $$$ you have on hand = asking price for old racecar.

I know of a IT legal civic just like yours for $5k CAN
The Improved Touring or Production will be your biggest tarket market here. I don't know about IRMA.
EDIT: forget IT - your way off the track
