autozone rotors..sand or not?
i picked up some new rear rotors, pads and pad clips yesterday and was told by a friend i should lightly sand the rotors with fine sand paper to give them a better finish...i dont know where he got that from but im here to see what you"s think...also after i do my rear brakes today should i bleed them a lil...thanks..
NO NO NO !!
They probably have some kind of greasy/oily coating on them so they don't rust in the box. Clean that off with paint thinner or degreaser or something. Don't sand them. The new pads & rotors have to wear into each other - that's what bedding in your brakes is all about.
On older rotors, I've had LIMITED success using a small belt sander to de-glaze the surface. That's when they get glazed UNEVENLY around the disk. Sometimes it makes them worse, so I only do it on rotors that I'm prepared to throw away.
Bleeding...
How long since you completely changed & flushed your brake fluid? Do that every 2 years regardless of miles. (Clutch too.) Doing a rear brake job like you're doing is usually a good excuse to flush your brakes, but if you've done it in the last year or so I wouldn't bother.

i didnt think so either...yeh there lightly oil coated..i have some brake clean to take care of that..also new pad clips to help the pads move freely as they should..the guide pins were fine but the clips didnt allow the pads to slide back and forth smooth... brake clean cant be sprayed on/in the slide pin rubber boots to degrease them right before i apply fresh lube? they need a flushng as a matter a fact but i"ll wait till the fall and do the front rotors and flush it then...thanks again JimBlake..
