does the iab wire go to a ground or a 12v source
Actually, for OBD2v1 (OBD2a) the red/blu (OBD2 engine harness) or the pink/blu (OBD1 engine harness) wire goes to the ECU (A26 - OBD2v1, A17 - OBD1, B16 -OBD2v2). Those pin locations are from memory. I don't have my notes or Helm's manuals handy. If I am incorrect on any of them please correct me.
If you are using an OBD2 ECU the other wire goes to ground. If you are using an OBD1 ECU the other wire goes to a 12v switched source. It all depends on which ECU you are using.
OBD2 uses a positive trigger to activate the IAB. OBD1 uses a negative trigger to activate the IAB.
Good luck.
