Default new aem cai for b16, how the

I just got a crx aem cai for my b16a... There are two hoses that went into the original intake, and only one place for a hose on the aem... Why does the aem include two rubber hoses, and one of them is pretty huge? Also, what is the water bypass valve assembly that they say to remove from the throttle body?

I'll try to help out...

1) The giant hose they include is sized for the CRX Si valvecover breather tube. You'll have to put your stock B16 tube inside the valvecover breather tube + use a clamp of some sort - at least that's what I did - as a reducer so the breather functions
2) The vacuum tubes from the B16 head are from the dashpot and dashpot. If you have two lines that means you have an Integra XSi intake manifold and probably an Integra XSi engine. You have a choice at this point. You can either a) drill and fabricate a ghetto-fabulous vacuum nipple on the AEM intake pipe using a rubber grommet and a male-male connector installed through the grommet, or b) remove and deep-six the dashpots (ie throw them the F*CK away).

My comments: I originally drilled + installed the vacuum tubes in the intake piping. It worked great. Eventually I got sick of the ghey dashpots and removed them both. The one on the throttlebody I just threw away - the one on the intake manifold, with the random rubber hoses going from the intake manifold to the intake manifold (talk about stupid) I removed and plugged off the holes. The CRX SiR engine does NOT - I repeat, does NOT - have this 2nd dashpot so it is entirely pointless and ghey.

I highly recommend option 2b over option 2a. It's much easier and your engine will be peppier after removing the dashpot. Almost six months later, I have no regrets

Anybody know what purpose the dashpot serves anyhow?

Oooh pick me I do I do...

It slows down the throttle's closing rate near the point where it slams shut Just remove it and take a look at how it works, it's pretty simple! It also helps automatic engines drive more smoothly. It's the part of your engine that makes the revs 'hang' at about 1200 for a second after getting off the throttle before they sink down to 800 or whatever.

In other words, garbage

Yep - the dual dashpots on the IM are a dead giveaway. Also you can check the blockstamp - look for a '1' first. A '5' indicates CRX SiR.

Some people disagree but I felt that my car revved slightly faster with those removed on my car, yes - and Mr. S liked the feel after removing his dashpot also

So did you go with the CAI for the CRX? I have read a number of debates on this. I am thinking about getting the AEM but I am not sure which one. I do not want to relocate the battery.

I always remove the dashpots, they are there so your common commuter can shift slower and not worry about the RPM dropping.....take them off, throw em' away and plug off with rubber nipples. It'll be easier to bang second too.(spin)

Sorry I'm an idiot and didn't see your post... yes, I have the CRX Si one I wish I'd gotten the Civic SiR CAI though!

But if I get the chance to relocate the battery I'll probably just switch to custom-built anyway.
