Default ITR theft prevention: Remove license plate?

I was reading in another thread (now locked) that some people actually remove or cover their license plate while parked in order to deter thieves. It is my understanding that a car on public property without a visible license plate is subject to being towed. (Homeland Security rules all!) Does anyone know the law on this? Also why would a concealed license plate stop a thief?

It is to my understanding that a license plate does not deter theft.

So... thieves will go to any length to get an R but they draw the line at stealing the plates off the car across the street? I don't think so.

this has nothing to do w/ Homeland Security...

state law states that every motor vehicle (even if parked on private property) needs to be registered and needs to display proper registration, i.e. a license plate

On the internet, it stops a desirable car from being traced by address...

I locked the other thread b/c you were given so many reasons why people blocked their plates...and I'm locking this one too!

BTW, Dave, I'm sorry that I didn't phrase this in the form of a question....LOL
