Tire discussion for 17" wheels
Okay, I'm getting a set of Steel Grey 17" Rota SDRs within about a week for my WRX. I need to get some tires now. I'm torn between a few things.
1) Should I go 225/45 or 235/40?
2) I'm mostly using these for the street (summer/spring), occasional AutoX, maybe a roadcourse once in a blue moon.
3) Brand/Model. I'm really leaning towards Falken Azenis Sports, but I'm open to other options. Yoko AVS ES100s, Pirelli PZero Neros (on sale $116 each at tirerack), Kumho Ecsta MX's.
Here's a link for the 225/45/17 tires:

Personally if you are going to be using this primarily as a daily driver I'd go with the higher profile. You might not have as much response, actually probably little difference, but at least you have a better shot at keeping your rims true-to-form.
Pot-holes suck!
Good luck!
Also, not sure if this will effect you, but keep in mind that if you go with the Azenis they don't work worth a darn in snow.

Just get the Azenis if you are going to be pushing these at all. ES100's would be my second choice(what I use now). They are the same price as the Azenis, but they definitely give up grip for longer treadlife.
Azenis = great grip at a good price

I've been using 225/45ZR17 Azenis almost exclusively as a track-only tire for 18 months and about 10-11 weekends of use - they still have tread on them and for a street tire, they are excellent on the track. Many people who don't know what the Azenis are have come up to me after a run and asked about what kind of R-compound tire they are... They really grip that well.
And before the flames start, yes I know they aren't as good as even the worst R-compound tire; but they will last longer.
