powdercoating is great for wheels, but if your cheap like me youll spend a few bucks on some index cards, primer and spraypaint and call it a day.
Spray paint works great! just make sure you clean them really well with dish soap. Then use primer, color, and a top coat! I did it on the spokes of my rims and left the lip poplished people think they are POWER COATED

Powdercoating your wheels is not a technical topic.
But anyway, I painted my wheels and I love the way they look. Spend the $ for powdercoating if you wish, but paint looks just as good imo. As long as it is done correctly.

actually i dont have any pics of wheels i've painted, i've done it numerous times, its worked great each time. Just buy some simple green, index cards, primer, and your choice of spraypaint (pick up a clearcoat if wanted). Take the wheels off and use the simple green to clean the wheels thoroughly. After its clean and dry lay the wheel flat on the ground. Use the index cards and wedge them between the lip of the wheel and the tire, make sure theres no tire showing against the lip (this keeps it looking clean and keeps paint off your tires). Hit it with two coats of primer and let dry. Then after the primer is dry apply 2 or 3 coats of the paint you chose, let that dry and hit it with 2 coats of clear coat. Take off the index cards carefully and give the paint a while to set, your done. I recommend you buy two cans of each (2 primer, 2 paint, and 2 clearcoat) just in case you use more than expected.
i just painted my rims on saturday.. gunmetal.. looks clean IMO its really easy to do... the only thing that is a ***** having the masking tape stick to the tires..
i just had my kosie k1's painted bronze. you'd be surprised....painting them is probably just as durable as powdercoating. I've had rims powdercoated before...ie..94-95 integra rims. problem is...a stone will chip powdercoating or paint if hit hard enough.....so you be the judge on what way to go about it. btw...diy paint is the cheapest...but powdercoating is only about 200dollars per set of 15" rims if you bring JUST THE RIMS to the place for powdercoating.

Okay I was thinking of trying to paint my wheels. My Problem is that the paint or whatever it is that comes on them stock is chipped to hell around the center and really rough around the lip. Could I sand this stuff down? What if I stripped them first? Might that help??? I need to do something because mine look like **** when the rest of the car is really clean the wheels never look clean. Anyone have any pics of painted early 4th gen Si rims??
truthfully it might be best for you to powdercoat. reason being...if its the clear coat peeling bad....prior to powdercoating the "tank prep" the rims. this absolutely completely strips the rim of all its powdercoating. just so you know...the clearcoats on our stock rims IS powdercoated clear.

Here are some pics of my old 4th gen with gunmetal 7 spoke SI wheels. If the rims are curbed just sand them down so its smooth and put a lot of thin coats of primer. They key to making it last is a lot of thin even coats of primer, paint, and clear coat.

Here's the reply I got from Gemtech Inc, located in Cali:
Hello Aaron,
It seems that we have sent you two sets of prices on this order. We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused. I have revised the last set of prices to reflect the best value for you. Please see below:
- Powder Coating (1 coat) - $30.00 / wheel
- Powder Coating (2 coats) - $60.00 / wheel
- Sand Blasting - $10.00 / wheel (if needed)
- Chemical Stripping - $60.00 / set of 4 wheels (if needed)
- 3% Regulatory surcharge on all orders.
- 3% Energy surcharge on all orders.
- Sales tax will be charged if items are not for resale.
For example, a set of 4 alloy rims that require chemical stripping and 2 coats of powder will cost $341.25.
Regards,
David Shiwota
Seems like a decent deal, and very thorough.
