Will An Older Motor Pass Emissions in my 97?
I recently blew 2 piston rings in my civic and instead of fixing it im just going to swap in a whole new engine. I was wondering though, will a older motor in my 97 still pass emissions? Or would i have to tell them when it goes for testing that it has an older engine in it and not the one that came with the car? A friend of mine said something about this to me and i just wanna clarify this before i make any purchases.
im either going to be swapping in a jdm 97 zc motor or a EX motor from a 92-95 depending upon what i find
thanks guys

i believe it is against the law to put an older motor than your year of chassis. For example if you have a 1999 car, its illegal to put a 1997 motor in there. Has to do with emissions cause on the same priciple you could take a 1999 car and put a 1965 motor in it that has no emission restictors at all.
But that is if they can figure out it's an older year. If they wanted papers or something on it they they would know.

sorry, no inspections where I live. You could drive a car with no hood, cracked windshield, no exhaust, open header, missing boarded up windows here and no one cares.
All the things I've done to my car, I have no idea what I would do if I had to go through inspections, I'd fail 10 times over!!
