why? ITR and SIR have the same gearing pretry much, at least 1-3 on the JDM ITR. GSR has longer 2-5 gears than SIR.

ITR or SIR, my answer to the posters question.

If someone offered you that trade go for it but make sure the tranny is in fine shape. However traving my b20vtec with a gsr tranny was nice, good gearing and freeway driving was slightly quieter (lower rpms in fifth) then my new ITR tranny but for the lsd and shorter gears its a hole lot nicer. I'd say if you can make the trade straight accross do it, if not b16 or itr tranny

whats up with the B16 and ITR tranny anyways? There was a big old thread about them being the same except with one (B16) without the an LSD..then someone said it wasnt the same and the B16 is weaker then ITR and the GSR..then it ended with them being the same.
Then i looked at the Quailfe Part Numbers for LSD's and it said that the B16 LSD is different from the ITR/GSR LSD's.
Then i did a search on it and and found thread that said the the Final Drive Gear and Differential was different in the B16 and if you change the Final Drive Gear to the ITR/GSR one then you can use the ITR LSD.....???

From seeing and hear first hand, yes the b16 final drive is a weak point compared to a gsr and itr f/d. You're also right about having the same final drive in the gsr as in the itr and yes a itr lsd will bolt right up to a gsr final drive. But as far as just dropping in a gsr final drive into a b16, not to sure, but I dont think so

your also going to have to look at what kind of driving you do.. if its a daily driver and you drive on the highway you most likely dont want something geared really close... unless you dont mind doin 4000 rpm goin 70 mph with a b16 tranny. i have a b16a tranny and i hate driving on the highway i really do, but i love it on the street. id get somthing with a lsd tho for sure if possible

here this may help you some:

B16 if you can find one. Chances are a $500 GSR tranny vs. a $1000 b16 tranny makes your mind up real quick.

I've had experiences with both trannies in my EG with B18C5 swap... I had the Gsr, didn't like it as much, gears were really long... when I put in the B16, it is soo much more fun... gears are really close together (even with the 4.4 final drive) I just wonder how crazy it would feel with a 4.785 or the ATS 4.9 fd...) The only thing I don't like as well about the Si tranny, is that you are constantly in vtec on the highway... (my highway speed is about 85 or so, and that is just at 5000 rpms where my vtec kicks in)

I have also had experience with the JDM ITR tranny... My choice overall, but I would never spend the $1200 for it. it's fun as hell!

Brand New B16 Tranny with the ATS 4.9 Final Drive and Quaife LSD and an LS 5th Gear sounds interesting...for daily driver that is...
