Default OT: CRX stereotypes/racing?

Hey everyone. My car has been sitting a couple of weeks, because I have not had tags. I got tags, and was driving my car home from my brothers house, and was AMAZED, at the amount of people who wanted to race. I am not into street racing, although I will drive a little lead-footed sometimes, but regardless, I did not race anyone. Nothing on my rex suggests' it is fast, and wants to race (bone stock!), yet everyone seemed to want a piece of the rex. Has anyone else experienced this phenomena? I think it is kind of funny, but it struck me strange, at the same time..

Because its a perfect combination of weight and handling and thus demands instant respect?

i noticed that when i drive my 90 hatch i never get called out. but when i drive my 98 coupe i get called out like 4-5 times a day. which sucks because my ef is hella faster than my 98.

Same thing with me. When I'm out driving my auto CRX, people pick on me all the time. But when I'm in my drag CRX, I rarely get picked on. Go figure.

Yeah, it DOES get irritating. I could understand if I maybe WANTED to, but by the third or fourth person, I was thinking "this is gonna get old really soon".

I was taking my car for a spin around the area (I'm still not quite used to driving it), and a Jetta with an overly loud exhaust pulls up next to me, then floors it, and takes off weaving in and out through traffic. He's cool, right?.....

That happens to me all the time. What I usually do is let them get along side me and drive in 3rd till I hit about 4k rpm, then shift to 4th and after that i'm pretty sure they hear the greddy BOV because they just get behind me. :evil laugh: Bwahahaha.

Get gauges.

No one tries to race you after you get gauges. Even if they're just the autometer 'coloured blinking light display' and oil pressure

That's actually a VERY good idea, but I am very against having anything I don't need. I don't need any gauges right now, because once I'm ready for a swap, this engine is going, and I'll have to put the sensors in again...a headache. Once I swap in a new engine, then I can happily cruise, and people will avoid the rex, and I'll have gauges to tune with!

I get it a lot, especially since i put my wheels on.....sad part is i'm all stock and have no power at all. Even if i did, i dont street race anyway. It amazes me how many people rev at me........it's mostly eg hatches and rex's.

...?

I get picked on too, once in a blue moon i'll be in the mood... Usually just to see what that other car can do though.

Maybe it's also where you're from. I dunno, around here, gauges mean you're HELLA fast or something For $200 you can intimidate anyone you pull up beside

Not that I want to street race; it's just something I noticed... people will come shooting up beside me, see the gauges, and slow down and stay behind the rear quarterpanel

not many ppl try to race me, last time I can think of someone reving at me was a SVT focus who didnt know how to drive. he tried to drop his clutch at 5k rpms and just spun out.

Before I put the Black Rota Slips on the CRX, I had 13" steelies....everyone was rev'ving on me....even with the h under the hood. But after I got the wheels..the piping came to a minimum. Its like they are skeered or something.....are flat black wheels scary? I have a reletivley quiet exhaust too...the only cars that ever rev are going the opposite way!!!!! <----very gh3y!

That's funny as hell. Project- how do you like the ZC engine in your rex? I'm still in the completely undecided stage of an engine swap, I'm talking to owners of cars with those engines in them..see what they have to say about them.

the one and ONLY time i was revved on when was back when my 4dr was almost completely stock (no swap, 13" steelies). some dumb *** driving the opposite direction in a 4dr painted silver revved on me and gave me his hardest "I'm a thug" look out his driver's side window.

that's hilarious Project91CRX
I wish my rear squirter worked that good! might as well mount a supersoaker eh?
The only time anyone revs on me is when I'm at a light with my dumbass best friend in his grandam. Gahd...it's an automatic already!!!

My CRX attracts stunnaz like flypaper. It really pisses me off, at the times when I have 10pts. on my licence. Most people that have witnessed a thorough, and brutal beating, like she gives to most of the ricers, learned not to mess around with her. I like pulling up on them after watching them drive all stunnafied trying to beat on other cars and reving at people. I pull up beside them and they don't do anything. I let my friend drive one night when I had 10pts. and I was picking fights with stunnas while ridding shotgun, and one guy made the statement that he didn't want to get "killed".

There are the select few who roll up beside me and think wow, body kit..... wow, CF hood........... too small of wheels, must not be able to afford real mods like 17"+ wheels. Probally all stock I'll put my '98 Grand Am up against it. Most of the time I just let them launch hard, and think thy just whooped up on a slow *** Honda.

Sometimes they get rolled on. It does **** me off at times, one day I got launched on at 3 lights in a row by 3 different vehicles. I was pissed I almost sold the CRX. It makes me wish the exterior was stock sometimes.

I have never have any problems in my hatch. Mabey it is the baby blue paint. It is slow as hell anyway. The D15B2 is such a monster. I did manage to own a coworker's 02 ex with it though.

Guages send out the message, but don't demand respect here. There's one guy in a bone stock 93 civic with a CAI and a monster tach. My POS 90 hp Isuzu truck stayed right with him....

It's a pretty good motor. I like it. It's reliable and Cheap to swap in.
My whole swap only costed me $150 for motor and basic tune up parts cost. No need to buy mounts because it's a direct bolt on.
Make sure you replace the seals, headgasket, waterpump, etc. before swapping it in. Those people who swap in a DOHC ZC without replacing the stuff i listed are the ones who says "DOHC ZC are crap" "Why is there smoke coming out of my exhaust"

and you must have already heard of people saying zc cant boost for ****. Well, maybe if those people would prep it for boost it wouldnt blow up!

There have been so many rumors about Not having aftermarket parts for the ZC which is untrue. If their's parts for the D series motor.. there's parts for the ZC.

I would say go for it iff you're on a budget. But if you have the cash.. go b18c or b20/vtec
