Default 2002 RSX Type S Cautionary Statement (from American Honda Tech Division)

I just received this from my AcuraLink DCS computer

The new RSX Type S is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission with close gear ratios and a precision
short-throw gearshift linkage. The operating feel of the new gearshift linkage is different than that of previous Acura models
including the Integra and Integra Type R.

Drivers should be cautioned to become fully familiar with the gearshift pattern of the RSX type S before attempting to shift
gears quickly. Mis-shifting to a low gear while at high engine RPM and/or high vehicle speed can result in severe
engine damage.

We have receieved field reports of engine damage to low mileage vehicles. Follow up investigations now confirm the cause to have been engine over-rev due to mis-shifting.

Engine over-rev damage is not covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Just thought I would share this...Same thing the new Celicas went thru...I guess after driving 5 speeds so
long and you get into a car with a 6 speed...you are all messed up on that first down shift cause you are
so used to going from 5th into 4th or sometimes 3rd depending on your speed...so I bet by habit people are in
6th gear thinking its 4th and going up into 3rd....or who knows....but people are destroying them...thats for sure.

wonder why they dont develop a way to kill the engine as soon as it tells its going to be over -reved??? just like when
you pass redline it cuts off fuel to protect us from doing damage...why not the same when down shifting???

mechanical over rev. cut the fuel all you want when you downshift, it's not going to help a damn bit.

The flywheels mass will almost always overcome any type of rev limiter, Until limiters are made "intelligent" people are just going to have to learn how to drive....................

Easist way out of that is sequential shifter. But to expensive for most mass production vechiles except for the likes of Ferrari, BMW, Porsche and Mercs.
But some are better then others. Toyota MRS sport shift is alot like Porsche sys.
But Ferraris and BMWs have nice feature that rev matches automatically when down shifting.
