Default Honda N1 Crank Pulley

Is it worth fitting a Honda N1 crank pulley, I have no air con or power steering so that doesn't bother me.

Your opinions will all be greatfully recieved.

If you don't have PS/AC then you might as well, it looks nice in the engine bay as well as reduces some mass from the rotating assembly. It's not nearly as light as let's say UR pulley, but it's a honda piece and balanced pretty well. Also keep in mind that it doesn't have a harmonic balancer.

I thought the N! pulleys had a harmonic balancer.

I know it;s bad to run one without the balancer on an engien esp a daily driver when I do upto 500 miles a week

No it doesn't have one from what I have always thought. It's just balanced well.

SO is it a good idea or not, cos i don't wanna be harming my engine after I've put all this effort into building it up

having the stock one cut is the worst . try unorthadocks racing .that might be your best bet. hey i dont know if i spelled unorthadocks the right way but you get the idea.

Yes, go with the CTR n1.. don't have the stock one cut.

If your going on a low usage >5000miles per year motor use the UR pulley..

UR Ultra R crank pulley and alt. pulley (race spec ones). 32,000 miles in 19months. What an investment.

I just got the N1 crank pulley for my b18c1. Why would they sell it if it harmed the CTR engine so much ???? I would think its fine if it will work on the CTR.

you guys are funny.

having a machine shop lathe your oem pulley down to just the alternator groove will shave half the weight of the stock one and retain your harmonic balancer which can be a critical component if you do have an older not-pro-balanced motor.

you can use a Honda CTR N1 pulley but I have heard they are NOT balanced, even if they are, you should have it balanced with the entire rotating assembly!

you can use an Unorthadox aluminum pulley too (it is SUPERLIGHT!) but I would only use that on a motor that is pro-balanced, or one you dont care about after 20k more miles.

The ctr n1 is NOT balanced. I know this because I had one before my Ati balancer and I had to have the ctr one balanced. They had to remove quite a bit of material

I don't think they where sold on stock ctr motors.
They where made for the N1 racing series (race only motors) that where probably rebuilt quite often.

Another thing you guys have to remember also...the ctr engine is built with a better rod to stroke ratio versus a regular b16 or a b18c for that matter. That will also factor in why they can use the N1 pulley on the ctr engine reliably. Ever wonder why they didnt make one for the type r integra???

the CTR N1 racing pulley is a racing part, made for teams into professional racing, who rebuild and professionally assemble their engines, balance their engines and tear them down often to inspect for wear on parts to see what components to improve upon.

far different from most of the USA street use daily driver setups.

I guess so, but fact of the matter is the CTR N1 edition with those beautiful steelies was still made for your average joe to go buy a race car and race it in it's stock form, be competitive and still reliable, good gas milage, full warrenty etc... Just like all the ACR cars from Dodge. The CTR is by far not a Race Car made to be torn down and rebuilt all the time. It's still a hatchcrap.

werd!

my last ctr pulley was perfectly balanced according to the machine shop. They had to take material off of the flywheel and crank, but none off the pulley, pistons, or rods..

Well I didnt have my pully balanced at a machine shop either, just to point that out. I had the place that balances UT jet engines do mine. And it was off . I sold it to a guy here on htec, i'll see if he can snap some pics of it.
