Ok I know this is all relative and whatnot and the best way to do this is on the dyno, but i have a y8 head on a y7 block, and i was wdonering what would be the best setting for my cam gear (AEM). Right now its advanced 1 degree, but it feels like there could be more power at lower rpms (under 3). Above 4 it pulls nice but what would be the best cam gear setting for overall power? Remember its a y8 on a y7.
Thanks
Dan

im not sure about single cams, but with dual cams, the general rule of thumb is if you advance both cams, then you get more low end power and if you retard both cams you get more high end power.

yeah i have it advanced one because i was told that would bring it to stock ex compression. So if all is as it should be right now i have the = of a ex STOCK setting.
Just set it so your cam timing is at 0 and then wait until you can hop on a dyno. That'd be the safest way to do it, and you know that the cam gear setting will be at its optimal point.
The ONLY way to know what setting is best for your motor is to get on a dyno. For someone to sit here and say you should advance/retard X amount of degrees is pointless. Spend the $ and get on a dyno. It is some of the best money spent on a car once you start modifying it.
