Default OT: Why block out license plate numbers in pictures?

Why do people do this? Everyone that sees my car can get the license plate number. What could they possibly do with it?

I think he means, since your lic plate is exposed all day while driving, someone could get it then. You can't cover it up while driving, so why bother covering it on here if any joe shmo can get it in a parking lot anyway.

this is a much more focused area for thieves to browse. when you are out driving around, yeah your plate is visible for all to see, but only a very small percentage of those people out there are paying attention to your plate, and if someone is looking at your car trying to get your plate number, chances are you are gonna drive past them before then can write it down or memorize it. They would have to follow you or see it in a parking lot somewhere, and chances are they would jack it then anyway.

When you are drivng people dont know your mods as you drive by. (unless you bov them or they see a FMIC), anyhow on the message boards people tend to show and tell thier mods. Give you an example if i was a thief and i saw a car i wanted with the access ihave at work i could have your home address in seconds. Get the picture .....

I think its kinda pointless. Ive done it to a few pics, but I just quit. Like what was said, you dont cover it up when you park somewhere so whats the difference IMO.

If you're in a bad area, removing your plates won't help from getting your car jacked at that location

To the people that think it's pointless don't make a " my car got stolen thread" when the car is gone. Bottom line is we take every precaution necesarry, what does it hurt?

I think for the license plate issue, a better security measure is to just not have personalized license plates. It's easier to remember someone's lame attempt at cleaverness with their custom plate than it is to remember a regular plate.

Not a good idea. A car without a plate is subject to being towed by the authorities. Besides, do you honestly think that a thief would not steal your car because the plate is missing?

BTW what are "Longo toyota covers"?
