Default thermostat replacement

just recieved my 'performance' thermostat
no instructions... no nothing.

where is the thermostat located?
it doesn't seem like a complicated part,
installation should just involve a wire right?

input appreciated.

A thermostat is usually at the other end of the lower radiator hose. So just follow the hose from the radiator to the engine and you'll find it. You would only have to remove 3 bolts if am not mistaken, and you can replace it.

Stubby wrench should help. Pretty tight spaces back there
You'll lose 2/3 of your coolant.

Exactly,

I watched while my mechanic installed mine. There are 3 bolts and it's a severe PITA, but not complicated. When you install the new thermostat, there are three litle "nubs" you have to line up so it doesn't leak... No wires involved.

Good luck,

i recommend using mostly water and maybe 10% coolant. it says 50/50 but if your car overheats it doesnt work as well as if it were 90/10 or 80/20. out in here in california its hot and coolant is mostly so it doesnt freeze. or use all distilled water and some water wetter and maybe a little coolant.

Could somebody go into this a bit more? Did you drain coolant first? Did you remove lower radiator hose from thermostat housing first? How the hell did you fit your hands in there to get at the bolts? Also, are there not only two bolts? Thanks. I do not read Japaneese (Mugen directions), and sometimes the Helm's manual might as well be in Japaneese. BTW-why in the world does the Helm's manual not have a f'n index????

I'll try.....

Did you drain coolant first?
I didn't.

Did you remove lower radiator hose from thermostat housing first?
Yes. I was execting coolant rushing out but it didn't until I removed the thermostat .

How the hell did you fit your hands in there to get at the bolts?
Stubby wrench. Even with it, you can only get the bolt to loosen 1 degrees per turn. Tedious and time consuming.
My hand was scratched to **** but it did heal after one week.

Also, are there not only two bolts?
Yes if memory serves me right.
You should disconnect the electrical connector on top of the housing first to make room.

Hope this helps
