Tightening Alternator belt

Default Tightening Alternator belt

Whats the easiest way to tighten this belt. Mine has come loose and is sqealing like a little girl. How do i get enough force to get this tight?

mine was squealing at start up too, but then I changed the belt and now the sound is gone.

loosen the upper nut and lower pivot nut. The lower one can be accessed easily from the wheelwell. There is an area where you can use a prybar to preload the alternator belt. It is on the top and you can see a thick flange on the alternator and an accomodating flange on the engine. I am not sure what the defection is but 3/8"-1/2" at the midpoint of the longest part of the belt is a good rule of thumb. Otherwise, check out your HELM. Then tighten the top nut and then the bottom one.
