Tightening Alternator belt
loosen the upper nut and lower pivot nut. The lower one can be accessed easily from the wheelwell. There is an area where you can use a prybar to preload the alternator belt. It is on the top and you can see a thick flange on the alternator and an accomodating flange on the engine. I am not sure what the defection is but 3/8"-1/2" at the midpoint of the longest part of the belt is a good rule of thumb. Otherwise, check out your HELM. Then tighten the top nut and then the bottom one.
