I'm currently using a 13x8x24.5 MT and love it. You have to figure with a taller slick you have higher mph and top end and you won't be shifting into 4th or 5th gear. I'm in 3rd at the end of the traps.

those are way too big for you if you're not getting into 4th...you want to be well into 4th at the end of the track. you should try a 22 inch tire

look like those 24.5's are puttin a hurt on you if youre in 3rd gear at the end of the track...try something smaller and more in the line for what you need.

yes, i'd try to use a smaller 22x9x13 on that all motor h22. the gearing and setup of the h22 doesnt really like the 24.5 most often.

how would going from 22x9x13 slicks to 22x8x13 or 22x7 affect performance? as in higher et's, lower mph's ?

You just have to try different sizes out to see what suites you best. I suggest going with 22x8x13 or if your making more then 180whp try the 22x9x13. that should be fine. good luck!
