Someone convince me that OBD2 is soooo much cooler than OBD1
Ok, so as my signature explains I've got a pertty little accord 2000. And I want an H22 more than I want sex(most of the time). Anywho, if my plan is to buy the engine...strip it and have the block resleeved...forged internals...big boost numbers...is they're any real point to getting a newer prelude's engine???? Both would pose the same problems fitting in my car and a conversion harness will solve the ecu issue, and an OBD1 would cost alot less. Are they're any differences in transmission gear ratios b/w the years? Please someone enlighten me...thanks.

here is how it works (im dealing with the same bullshit with my OBDII 97 240sx)
engine: must be same year or newer, TECHNICALLY thats the rule. although the only place that matters is in california. ok with that out of the way
why?
OBD. most of the h22 swaps you are gonna get will OBDI and to pass emissions you must have it set up for OBDII. why again? because of the way they test OBDII. for OBDI they jam something in the tailpipe, put the car on the rollers and do their thing. with OBDII all they do is plug something into the computer and look how the engine is running. if you run OBDI that little plug dosent work, instant fail.
so to swap, you need a obdII h22.

my car's a 91, so if i get an obd1 ecu they wont even attempt the obd2 test will they?
last time i went, they did that tailpipe emissions test.

ODB1 is easier,
I think poison was just saying that ODB2 is better for emmsions control and not for tuning.

Ya, that's what I was saying. Thanks for clarifying for me
OBD2 - easier for emissions
OBD1 - easier for tuning, I don't believe there are many chips if at all for OBD2.

In NJ I went through inspection with an OBD1 H22 in a 99 civic that I converted from OBD2>1. The only reason why I failed was for emissions, which was because I dont have my EGR hooked up. So you cant say that its an instant fail. Not on person at inspection said one word to me about the h22 being under the hood after intensive spectating by many inspection station employees.

this is true i failed to mention you need to see if your emissions testing station has OBDII testing equipment, because some dont. and they still do the visual and sniffer.

well i just wanted to add that i just (almost) crapped my pants. My sister just bought a 95 civic Ex, I looked at the inspection and it had a emission sticker on it. I was like WTF since when did they start doing emissoins here? I later found out that the car was from a different county than ours here in NY. Pheeeew

Obd2 sucks **** and *****. If you like your check engine light to come on everyday then go with it and youll hate it. Obd1 is the only way to go if you want any performance. Oh and 240's suck.haha, inless they have RB swaps

Thats cool, just pay some clown at emissions to pass it.
Civic is getting a new motor in about a week or 2 hopefully. Whenever it gets back from the machinest. Then one of those weird snail looking objects is going on the front of it
