cracking sidewalls...Kumho 712's
i figured since i have an integra that i would post this here....
i was cleaning up my wheels/tires today and noticed that my sidewalls are starting to get small cracks in them. i know lots of cracks and/or big cracks are a safety problem, but what do you think about these...(images hosted on we-todd....hope they work)

It's possible that the tire get dried out and cause small cracking like that. It's prolly not deep enough to cause anything.
You might want to start using some sort of tire wet to moisten up the tire a little every car wash or so. No need to constantly put it on.

i thought that stuff would dry out a tire faster though.....or is that a myth?

Those are ok, nothing to worry about. I had some Falkens crack on me where it looked as if the tires were ready to blow, then I got Kuhmos.

sounds like its just some dry rotting, typically its not that much of a problem unless ure tearing your tread away. use some kind of lubrication everyonce in a while, there are other reasons besides shiny that you can use that kind of stuff

NO! Do NOT use armorall on your tires! Armorall and similar products contain petrolium distillates that are harmful to rubber
. Before you ever use any sort or product on your tires check to see if it has petrolium distillates. It will usually say on the back.

Has this been proven? Seems odd that they would make a product that is supposed to be a rubber protectant if it is actually harmful.

I am certain Armorall does *NOT* contain petroleum distillates.
Here is the MSDS sheet:

The question that is floating around the internet is whether the Silicone used by Armorall is bad for rubber. My basic understanding of it is that it is not, silicone is used as a rubber treatment/preservative in just about every product sold.
I can't find anything beyond heresay and anecdotal evidence to the contrary, but I do think that the benefits to using it outweigh the benefits to not using it but then again they are tires, who cares how they look?
