Default Skunk Stage 3's Daily Driver

Ok Ok, I know it sounds ridiculous, but I've seen several instances on honda-tech where people run sick-vtec stage 3 cams on their daily driven cars. I'm thinking about going skunk2, if I wanted stage 3's for a daily driven car, how would I make that possible?

what type of setup are you running as of now? there is no reason to get the stage 3's unless you have a pretty wild setup now or are planning on having one when you install the cams..... ur user name is b16anees so im assuming you have a b16, those cams are for a motor with high compression which a b16 doesnt really have.....

i ran them in a stock b16 botom end and it was much faster than stock.

running big cams isn't a big deal in vtec motors, the low end cam profiles ushaly keep a pretty good idle. mine idled and drove arround like stock. i'm moving on to ef-1 m25, i guess you could say it's a stage 5, and i plan on running them on the street. but this is just my experiance, who know's maby i'm just magical.

good luck.

Skunk 3's are a better dailydriven cam then skunk 2 becuase it has a smaller primary and secondary lobe. Unless you are constantly bonning out then i would have to say the skunk 3 are a better dailydriven cam then the Skunk stage 2

Right now I'm running stock motor, with basic i/h/e, act 6 puck clutch, chipped pm6 ecu with v-afc. I was actually planning on doing a little building, aka bumping the compression before I went with stage 3's. Evilxkid, you ran your stage 3's on a completely stock bottom end? No problems at all, noticable gains? Fill me in more, I'm curious to see how that would turn out.

what compression are you running, or, is the bottom end stock?

There are high lift cams, and even higher lift cams, and if you've got the stock bottom end i wouldnt bother going bigger than skunk2 stg II, even the 10x cr on that is very limiting to these cams

Yeah you can run Stage 3's but you better have the motor built to get your money;s worth. If you don't skip the cams for now.

Just picked up a set of 3's for 650 new... Planning on running 12:0 12:5 compression, going to retain my 1.6 block, beef up the rods, and forged pistons, and completely balance the bottem end, and maybe a slight port and polish.... hopefully with good bold on's and tuning, ill make some decent power.... my goal is 200whp... but ill take what i can get.

He actually doesn't have it backwards. The Stage 3 cams profiles are designed by the same company that did Hytech's K cams and they work well.

You really don't need rods for only 200whp. Put it towards something else.

Hey Rocket. So I'm a little confused. Are the stage 2 and stage 3 cam primary lobe specs the same? Is the stage 3 smaller? I was under the impression that the primary lobe on the stage 3 was larger then the stage 2. Making the stage 2 a easier cam to daily drive on. I know for a fact the secondary lobe on the intake cam of the stage 3 has more lift and duration. I also know that the secondary lobe on the exhaust cam has .3mm less lift, but a good bit more duration. Am I reading something wrong here?

HMMM! If you pick up both cams and look at them then you would notice that the primary lobes on the skunk stage two are bigger than the three. Which would mean it would put more stress on you valvetrain/rockerarm. But i do admit that the stage three has a bigger vtec lobe. Thats why i said if you are driving around normally without hitting vtec all the time then the stage three's better

.Then I stand corrected. I would still like to see specs just to know. I have specs on the secondary lobes of all cams, but only primarys on OEM Honda's and JUN's. If anyone has the ones for Skunk2 or TODA that would be .

Besides though, who could drive around on the streets without dipping a little bit in. I'll aggree with you though. I never doubted any of these OTS cams can't be daily driven.

Also we've already seen the Skunk2 Stage 3's beat out the TODA Spec D's on one set-up.

Wouldn't the Stage 3 be overcamming on the B16, whether built or not?

so stage 3s or stage 2 skunks make more power? , how come stages 3s arent so popular if theyre niceer to the valve train and make power similiar to that of toda D's ? lots of people are running stage 2's tho

Stage 3's make more power and are rougher on the valvetrain on the 2ndary lobe.
