SeDiv#3 - Nashville, TN - How'd it go?
My car was laid up after the Wendover ProSolo trip. Jerry Grigg was supposed to be codriving with me, but I had to back out of that.
Here's what Jerry had to say about the course (a course that Steve Hoelscher evidently didn't like very much, judging by his comments on the evolution-disc list) :
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">...the courses were fast. The courses were setup on an access road for the
speedway and a parking lot. Saturday's course started on the road on the
left, went through two gates on the right, through a two cone slalom back to the
left, through a couple of gates, a straight section, into a four cone slalom, a
straight, then a pin cone 180. After the 180 you went back through the slalom, made
a left hand 90 into the parking lot, made a right hand 90, short straight,
sweeping 180, two cone slalom, straight, two cone slalom, two right hand 90s, a box, two gates, a three cone slalom, and then the finish. From the start it was pretty
much pedal to the floor all the way to the slalom. I was accelerating in third gear [that's over 70mph in a Camaro!!] for at least 200-250 ft (maybe more) before slowing for the slalom. The slalom cones were about 32 paces apart. Then the pin turn was a first gear turn the width of a four lane road. It was crazy. I've never had to downshift from 3rd to 1st on an autocross course. The rest of the course was second gear stuff. It was what you would expect for an autocross.
Sundays course was run in the reverse direction of Saturdays course starting
in the parking lot. The main changes were on the road section. The slalom
was shorted to three cones, but the remaining cones stayed in the same place.
The pin turn was moved much closer to the last slalom cone. On the return trip,
the course after the slalom was a straight to the finish. Also, on Sunday the
slalom was not optional.</TD></TR></TABLE>
