Hydraulic clutch? Sounds kinda like your clutch master cylinder is leaking past the piston back into the reservoir.
First make sure it's not leaking OUT. Reservoir still full? Brake fluid soaking into the carpet by the clutch pedal?
When your brake MC leaks like this, your pedal slowly & smoothly sinks to the floor as you press on it. Like when you're stopped for a red light. When your clutch MC leaks, your clutch slowly engages* itself as you hold the pedal to the floor. The fix is to replace the clutch MC.
* remember, you press down the pedal to DISengage the clutch.
If you had air in the clutch line, it wouldn't completely disengage when you first push down the pedal. You make it sound like it disengages OK but then slowly engages while you hold the pedal down.
