DVS Drag Team Report - Las Vegas, NV
Stephan Papadakis wins in Record breaking fashion and Runs 6.90 @ 200mph!!!!
Friday evening rolled around pretty quick for the continuation of the GM/NHRA sport compact race in Las Vegas, NV… the temperature was HOT and the air was thin… this extreme weather is not very friendly to the already oxygen hungry race cars!
Stephan Papadakis:
Stephan’s weekend really started off on the right foot! As qualifying was finished he was at the top of his game securing the #3 Qualifying spot with a run of 7.196 @ 195 mph… really showing the field what the car was capable of! In his first round match up he was lined up against the ever presence Venom Tundra of Grant Downing, Steph had to fight back some heavy tire shake to drive around downing with personal NHRA best of 7.009 @ 197 mph… only .009 from the elusive 6 second club! Round 2 ended up being an all Honda NSX powered race! As Steph lined up against Adam Saruwatari, Stephan solidified his place as the world quickest and fastest Drag Honda with a run of 7.680 @195 mph… this lined up Steph against the 2002 NHRA champion Matt Scranton. The Scranton brothers thrashed on their car after a broken tranny slowed them in the previous round… well Steph got up the line the Scranton's were no where to be found, so Stephan made a single pass down the track in record breaking style running a career best 6.900 @ 200.56 mph becoming the 5th member of the Summit racking 200mph club! Congrats to steph and the Whole AEM team!!!!
Jeremy Lookofsky:
The night started off with the all motor cars which meant Jeremy really had to step it up to move up in the qualifying field… he was in the #14 spot after the first round that was run back in March, after experiencing some Major Fuel Delivery problems… After Qualifying had completed Jeremy moved way up the charts and locked in the #7 Qualifying spot with an 11.26 @118mph… far off from the cars potential because of the air the whole filed was off .4 - .6 of a second… As eliminations started our first round opponent was Chad Barber, this race ended up pretty much like we expected with the L’Natural civic droving around Chad to take the win… this lined up the race we wanted all weekend! Jeremy was up against the #2 qualifier and Season points leader Ken Scheepers… this was a tall task but Jeremy was up to the task as he left Ken at the line and never looked back! Running his best time of the event a 10.978 @123mph… Things did not get easy from there, in the semi-finals he lined up against 2002 NHRA champion Jesus Padilla, right when the race started Jeremy had his hands full and drifted towards the center line of the track and came narrowly close to crossing over… he gave Jesus a side by side race until a 3rd gear mis-shift wrapped it up for Jeremy… Congrats to Jeremy and the whole L’Natural crew!!!
Shaun Carlson:
It was a tough weekend for Shaun and the NuFormz / Mopar Dodge Neon… from the First qualifying pass Shaun suffered the same clutch / Transmission problems that everyone using the Fortin tranny seems to be having… and they couldn’t seem to get the problems fixed… although officially they made it all the way to the Semi-finals they never really made a full run down the track. I know they will back in the shop and back on their game for the next race in Texas…
Christian Rado:
As it was for Shaun the World Electronics Drag Celica also suffered some Mechanical problems… but they seem to have the tranny problems pretty sorted out… this was more of an electrical problem weekend! Christian was able to Secure the #1 Qualifying position for the 2nd time this season with a pass of 8.462 @ 176 mph more than .6 of a second over the #2 Qualifier… he broke in a strange double loss as his car and that of Jerrold Rhodes both broke after the burnout… like Shaun, I know the Chris will be hard at work to make sure the car is at the top of the field in Texas!!!
Thanks to everyone who came out to support the DVS race cars and we look forward to seeing you and the next NHRA Sport Compact event being run August 8th & 9th at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas!

HOT HOT HOT was the Theme in St. Louis... It was the Hottest event of the year & with the corrected 3800ft elevation it was tough tunning for everyone. Norris missed the first qualifying pass as he was ready to roll up to the staging lanes he went to put the front end on and a piece that holds on the front end broke off. Later with the help of Saturn Motorsports, he was back on the strip and qualified #2 with a 10.47. behind Erick Aguilar's run of 10.35. In the first round of eliminations Norris Expirienced a major Egine failure which put his Type R racing Integra on the Trailer for the rest of the event. Look for Norris to back on the right track at the Next NDRA event at Maple Grove Raceway in PA taking place August 2nd & 3rd...

Yes. Tell Jeremy thanks again!
We need a full field like this at every race. Not the first time ole Scheepers has left the door open. Just this time someone was there to take advantage of it.Damn that race between Leslie and I was close. That was great. Excellent run for Leslie and her team.
See everyone in Dallas.
