my new exhaust is on, and i did the install in record time for me; 1hr 35min from the time i got the jack out till the time i was cleaned up and started the car. and this was with the wrong hardware, and a bolthead that broke off, and 0 assistance. it's nice spending $137 for an exhaust instead of $500. gotta love mazdaspeed. this afternoon my friend whom i helped build his miata came over and we removed the top (probably 20+lbs), as well as the dash. from behind the dash we could get at some of the AC components that probably weigh 10+lbs, and some more sound insulation (2-4lbs). we also finally finished up removing the surface rust from where the top had leaked. all in all it took us about 5 hours and we only broke a few things, and resorted to minimal swearing
rust
after grinding
after naval jelly and paint ready
the exhaust
my friends who get paid in food to help

so many wires for such a simple car

28 hours of labor logged so far by me personally, and the only part i have installed is the exhaust

getting dynoed, to it's 109 badass whp-

this ones kinda old- the door panels are gone now and we have daytona bars in it, the cagebuilder that did the cage was great; it started as the hard dog 4-point and we added to that.

the willans harnesses RULE.

Is your engine fully prepped, or an old street motor?

Yeah, and only now are you entering the "expensive" part.

109 should be a street motor.
mark - how far along are you on yours? you said you got it on track already this year right? this whole roll cage thing is gonna put a huge dent in my bank account, especially since i have to have it custom made to fit my 6'3'' 225lb frame. the goal right now is to have i "done enough" to run at the Mid American H-T event on sept 7th, and take it to drivers school to get my comp liscense on the 13th, and MAYBE, MAYBE, run my first race the next day. but i'm going to have to sell a lot of cars for that to happen.

Yeah, but I was on the track as a street car w/ just a bar. I'm holding on as a street car for at least one more year while I get some more important things in order. For now, I'll just learn to be a better (Miata) driver and do the little things while keeping it as a street car.

we had a jackson racing intake on the miata and a screw got loose and was swallowed. it killed the old motor, so we just got another motor and replaced the regular things. 109 on a totally stock motor, with the requisite racing beat intake. thats about average for a miata.
