How do you remove the metal plate by oilpan?
Am doing my first ever oilpan swap (90 CRX Si/ZC). Yes, I'm a newbie.
I got the old pan out, but now when I'm putting the new (stock) pan in, that stupid little piece of metal (plate) that folds down and a little bit over the oilpan lip, keeps giving me a hard time. It ends up catching the new gasket, argh.
I hope you guys can guess which plate I'm referring to. I searched h-t, and looked in my Helms + Chilton to no avail.
It's maybe 2-3" wide and 1/4" thick. And it comes down vertically and then has a slight bend to it.
I found 2 (12mm?) bolts that seemed to hold it on, but after removing these 2 bolts the darn plate still won't come off.
How in the HECK do you REMOVE this plate??
Thanks for any help/tips
once you get the bolts off you need to swing the end closest to the front of the motor down. this might take pliers or what ever you can use to pull it down. then pull it down. you'll get the hang of it after you do it a few times. installation is the reversal of removal. For things like these its always nice to have someone that has done it a few times to show you tricks in person. good luck
Thanks for the reply VTgringo.
I tried using pliers to pull the tab off, but it ain't going nowhere (or maybe I need to start hitting the gym more often!)
Here's a pic I took of the metal tab - I wanted to make sure everyone knew which part I was referring to
I'm trying to remove the metal tab within the red circle so I can (more easily) put my oilpan back on. I've already removed the 2 bolts that *appear* to be holding this piece in place, but it still ain't moving. Do I just need to really yank harder? I weigh 205lb and put everything I had into it...but it still didn't do much except wiggle a little.
Thanks!

hmm when i took out my oilpan for the first time (a few weeks ago) i just removed the 2 bolts that hold the thing on, then pulled on it and wiggled it kinda up and down like and pulled on it and it came out. Putting it back in, you just needa get the bolts that go under the oil pan first so that when you put the oil pan back on, the cover wont be all loose, then put all the oil pan bolts back in. Get what im sayin or did i confuse you?

Thx
So when you reinstall the oil pan, you tighten down the oilpan bolts/nuts FIRST, and then you slide the metal tab back in?

nah, i had to put the metal plate thing back in, then put the 2 bolts that hold it up in, then you can put your oil pan back in, im pretty sure thats how i did it, because the oilpan covers the 2 bolts you need to hold the plate in, so thats why you would wanna put the plate back in first. Good luck takin it out, dont be afraid to pull somewhat hard on it, i had to and first i was worried i was gonna
something up.

ok thats the exhaust bracket and it looks like it has been cut off so just remove the remaining piece and throw it away it will do you no good if it has been cut off

Ahhhh, thank you!
I was wondering why the lower edge on this tab was very jagged/ragged.
The shop must have done this back when I got my h/e installed a few years back. I've only recently begun doing a lot of my crx work myself.
Thanks a bunch bagged98hatch and h-t.
I'll rip that thing out when I get home from work tonight.
