Default question? will this work?

I just bought a head off a head off a friend of mine which is vtec, my car on the other is a 97 civic cx hatch which is non vtec; a few people exersized that being that my car is non vtec I would need a way to activate the solenoid, so I asked them how, and someone said if I had deep pockets then go with vafc/vtec controller and everything else that i need to go along with it! if not you can use a shift light switch w/ gauge to activate it, just plug the gauge to the tach wire on the distributer, and the wire that turns on the light will hook up to the solenoid and will be powered by 12 volts, and then just set it at a rpm that you would like it to kick in at and your ready to go!
This sounded too good to be true!
So; thats why I wanted to run this by someone else before I started a whole new project.

It does sound to good, but it is true.

Just run the shiftlight to whatever RPM you want... and your set bro!

I always had an idea to use a switch to engage VTEC. But that is a really good idea.
