How many bulbs behind the CRX cluster (88-89)?
I want to change the bulbs to alter the color. I changed out the 3 big 194 bulbs but the middle is still original color. What other bulbs are there and what size? Do I need to change all the bulbs with brown backs?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The cluster light doesn't get its color from the bulbs. ALL the bulbs are white, I believe. The color comes from a transparent orange piece of plastic at the top of the cluter that the light is directed through.

The 194 bulbs are clear bulbs covered with blue condoms. I don't know about the other small ones. You can definately change the color because half of the cluster is red but the middle is still original color.

What? What's still in what color? the color it appears to me is projected on the needles from above from that orange piece of translucent plastic that sits on the underside edge of the clusters top.
On my teg that piece of plastic across the top edge is blue, same color as the condoms and the teg gauges appear white at night with a slight blueish tint. Same for the ashtray lights in both cars.
Well, experiment and tell us what you find out. I'd like my CRX gauges to be a darker orange like they were on the 1G CRX's.

The middle of the cluster has not changed after I changed out 3 of the 194 bulbs is what I'm trying to say. I will take a pic of it tonight.

What do you mean? by middle of cluster?
I do believe that the reason the color didn't "change" is because the "color" of the illumination in not dependent on what color the bulbs are. It didn't change because the nighttime illumination comes from a combination of direct and indirect light. Some of which shine thru the orange plastic piece across the top.
Try taking a pen light and shine it thru the holes to see which bulb lights up which part of the cluster. (if that makes any sense.)

Yes sir I just changed the bulbs. You can buy some xtreme white bulbs from PIAA they work very well.
The needle is easily seen but hard to tell in that pic.

There is a stupid orange piece of plastic at the top of it. I took mine out and it made the cluster light up bright white as opposed to dim *** orange.
