Default Auto To Manual Legal?

Is it legal in california to go from Auto to manual? If so, does it matter what year transmission I use? And What do I have to do to make the swap legal?

there are no laws regarding trannies because they don't affect engine emissions.

It may be legal, but you're probably better off just selling the car with an automatic and buying one with a manual...
