Hot-wiring an Integra?
Hey guys,
Now that I have calmed down a little bit...I've been trying to think about how my GS-R was stolen the other night. Is it hard for a thief to hot-wire an Integra? It was parked right near a pretty busy 4 way stop so it's hard for me to imagine someone having the ***** to sit there and slim jim the door open when cars go by at all hours of the night and then taking the time to hot wire it.
I had the VIN covered up with a piece of paper, but I took the car in for service at a pretty shady shop a few months ago so it is also possible that they could have copied the key or gotten the VIN. I'm checking the dealerships tomorrow to see if anyone had a key made for my VIN. Do you think they would have these records on file?
BTW still no word from the police. It's been gone 3 days. I think I've decided I'm not getting another GS-R because:
1) They are hard enough to find in this town
2) Even if I did find one, it would not be anywhere near as perfect as mine was
3) They attract too much attention
4) It's not worth the stress of worrying about it getting stolen/vandalized again.

working around the car audio electronics industry, I see pinouts for cars electrical system all the time.
It's not hard to hot wire a car at all.
But most likely what theives are doing now adays are flatbedding them away, faking that they are a tow crew.

I wouldnt think so because wouldnt the tow crew send some kind of notification? Well I agree with the flatbedding, its easy and who would question them...if anything I'd think its a fake towing crew not a real one.

sorry to hear, that sux... luckily i've never had any probs w/ theft or vandalism... i think someone needs to invent a device that sprays mace into the bastard's face as he sits in the drivers seat w/ some sort of pressure sensor mounted under drivers seat... of course this wouldn't help if it were 'flatbedded'- at least until later... ::imagination running wild::
Ahhhh Now this has got me worried
All these integras being stolen,Im sorry for your loss.Real shame that our prides and joys are being stripped from us by low life losers. It makes me freaking furious.Im already considering selling my Teg and buying a VW Corrado.Im betting you anything it was flatbedded away.Good luck man

I doubt any of you guys would even notice a car being stolen if someone flatbeded it away.
What a lot of people have got stuck in there head is that it's a smash and grab job. Not any more. Kill switches, auto-locks, clubs, and alarms make it all harder, but not preventable.
I highly doubt if you saw someone come up to a Integra and put it up on a flatbed, you wouldn't question them. And you know you wouldn't. Especially if the guy/guys were wearing professional uniforms, etc. Even if you did. They would prolly come back with some smartass remark and tell you to back the **** up since it's not your car.
Remember if you try to create attention, you'll end up doing so. So they'll jsut play the role as the tow truck driver. By the time you had a chance to call in the unmarked tow truck to the police, as a suspicious vehicle. It's too late.
Hell, you ever seen a repossesion take place? If they want, they can be in and out within 30 seconds. Your car would have no chance what so ever.

agreed. cars get towed away all the time, nobody pays any attention to them. also, most of you guys probably wouldn't beleive just how easy it is to steal a civic or integra. i've taken apart my ignition just to **** around, you can start a civic up without a key, without even breaking the ignition. however, to unlock the steering wheel you do have to break off the ignition from the steering column. it'd take me, a 16 year old kid, 60 seconds at the most to hotwire my car, from the time i got into my car to the time i was driving away.

it the other guy is wrong its takes about 35 seconds to get up and goin all it takes is a sturdy screw driver like from snap on drive the screw driver in between the wheather stripping and window and pull window out and run it up to open gap in window and use other hand to pull door lock and then pull unspecied(not telling) ignition wiring and jam into fuse box underneath(not telling) and boom the car starts like putting the car in and starting and by the way how do i know this repo man

how would you drive it though? if the ignition isn't broken, the steering wheel is locked. you have to break the ignition off to unlock the wheel.

The plastic around the steering column is first broken off so the ignition is exposed. Then a breaker bar is placed between the ignition and the steering column. They push down on the breaker bar and break the ignition down, leaving the column unlocked. There is a little white plastic peice on the back of the ignition held in by 2 screws, take it off and use a flat head to start the car. If your car had an alarm with a kill switch, they just turn it on an push start it. Most alarms with kill a switch only stop the signal from going to the starter, all the accessories still get power, including the fuel pump. Therefore alot of theives will just turn the key to the on position and push start it.
For future reference I recommend a hidden switch to your fuel pump, the car may start for a second with the left over feul in the lines, but just die within minutes.
Sorry about what happened bro, being jacked sucks ***.

i think when my car was stolen the guys werent professional at all. they broke my left window and broke the key cylinder off and twisted the switch. when i got the car back i could start it up with a screw driver.. i still have the piece. if i wanted i could go into any integra and unplug the ignition switch and plug my old on back in and im gone. but i wouldnt do that cause i know how it feel for an integra to be taken away from u

hate to tell you this but if they havent found your car in 3 days, its probably stripped down to the bone.......its sittin in some guys garage getting raped probably as we speak.....and it'll probably be dumped some where tonight or in the next day or two.......thats how its been. All of my friends have gotten their cars back totally raped 3-5 days after its been stolen!
ehhhh... what about those tilt sensors? suppositly used to prevent stealing wheels.. but if ur car is being towed, it would be tilted.. would any of u question a car being towed away with the alarm screaming? and just incase.. tilt sensor + backup battery siren?
oh, and btw.. my car was broken into about a year ago.. slick lil bastards..
popped the hood from under the car, pulled out the battery, jimmyed my passenger door, jacked out the completely computer of my alarm but didn't manage to do more then **** it up, then just took off with my sony head unit =\ they blew a few fuses too.
