If you do go with a P28+Hondata then you will need an OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness since your car is an 89 civic. Or you can go with a chipped PR4 and an AFC. If you don't want to buy an AFC you can borrow a Vtec controller and use just the fuel side of the unit and tune it on the dyno with the VAFC and then take the settings out of the VAFC and have the person chipping the ecu change the program on your ecu to the settings that are on the VAFC and then you can take the VAFC off and run on just the Chipped PR4.......going with the hondata will give you more tune-ability.....going the PR4 will save you a little bit of money.

my bad, unless its stage 3/4....pre-obd....unless wiring conversion and s100 or s200 are in order, i apologize for the vagueness.
edit*stage 2 is only hondata without vtec xover.

I think I am a little confused with what you are saying. The s100 and s200 both have VTEC control. Hondata recomends using the s100 or s200 unless you have a Pre-OBD ECU like a PW0 or soemthing. Then use old Stage 3-4. Soooo which one were you saying doesn't have VTEC control that you would need a VAFC?

stage 2 is the only hondata that doesnt have vtec control, tired last night. But the engine is pre-obd (im pretty sure) b18a, and unless the wiring is converted then only stages 2/3/4 can be used, leaving 3/4 for vtec control. Vafc is cheaper than hondata, not as tuneable, but still a decent piece of hardware.
