Default 4th Gen Tach Mounting

I have a 5" Autometer CF Tach that I got for 80$ with pillar mounting attachment (265$ + 10$ From Store). And I was wondering what the best place to mount it would be. And what is best to attach it to.

put it on godzilla's nuts...

or you could be original and put it near your driver's side pillar on the dash.

Why don't you trash that big *** tach and shift by listening to the sound and feel of your motor not but how high number rev you can go. Stock tach does just fine.

First of all that "trash big *** tach" is worth 280$ and i got it for 80$ from an uneducated kid. That means in the future the resale value is huge. Plus, My Stock tach does not function or I would aggree with you and not use a replacement.

I'm so sick of the pawns that infest this forum. some of you guys are so pathetic and sheepish sometimes. You hear everyone blasting people for the same reason and you jump on the bandwagon with them, trying to fit in on a computer community

out of 9 replies only 1 was an actual helpful suggestion.

That was one of the most idiotic things i have ever heard. Are you saying that you listen to your motor and automatically know when the fuel cutoff will hit? you never use your tachomteter as a reference? How do you launch by listening to your motor? You must be really consistant.

The stock tachometer works, yes, but I have heard from many people that it is off by quite a bit, especially in the upper rpm's. Some people like shift lights, some people rev higher then stock.

But if we want to be cool like you, we would just know exactly what rpm our car is at, all the time. If we wanted to be cool like you, we would throw our ricer tach away that we paid money for. Hey, why not throw out the stock tach too?

in conclusion, many posts i see here could be written by the same person with the same elitist, snobby, unhelpful mindset that has seemed to envelop a part of this board.

Your weak attempts sarcasm and wit fail, you impress no one. If anything, you only discourage people from pursuing a new hobby and doing/buying what they truly like.

you sheep need to be sheparded the **** up, heh

edit: OMG i almost orgot to actually answer this guy's question. I will be trying to mount my tach on the dash, next the drivers side tweeter. I am trying to keep it very low profile, and to not attract thieves. Our dash has a good amount of space, try mounting it down lower then the average ricer has, there is no need to floss

do they make any aftermarket tachs that are smaller than 5"? I just dont like how huge and gawdy they look, but it'd be awesome to bore out a hole in the tweeter cover (4g) and slide it in there. I put my jdm fog light switch in there. I was thinking about putting a shift light next to it.
Maybe you could sell off the tach and install a programmed shift light.

For one i don't take my car to the *** Strip. Almost anyone and their mom and learn how to launchand drive in a straight line. And yoor right i don't use my stock tack for racing so why don't i just take it out. Frankly that was one of the stupidest things i have heard. I just use a shift light that is covered by the A/C vents in the middle.

To go on the question, Sell the damn thing make some money and use that money for something else on the car. its just my opinon but other people "teen heartthrob" think they are god and everyone else is crap. You know my 10 year old sister acts that way. I guess that doesn't on saying much everyone has to be inmature some days out of thier life. Most people just get through it fast than others. Sorry "teen heartthorb" that you are still there.

I once had a 5" tach in my prelude, mounted in the typical spot on the driver's side pillar.

I am almost convinced that it was this tach that caused my car to get broken into about 3 months after I got it.

I will not go for another 5" tach ever again. I know that the stock tachometers are inacurrate at high RPMs, but something THAT big and flashy (as the Autometer tachs tend to be) will definitely attract the wrong sort of attention.

My plans are to invest the 200+ bucks into an EL gauge conversion and shift light, then mount the shift light somewhere inconspicuous...there really isn't anywhere to mount a 5" tach and not have it be in plain sight to everyone. HTH

Well thank you for your actual help with my tach, for the rest of you (not all of you) that didn't ******* read the actual problem, read it again, my stock **** does not work which is why I am doing this. Maybe I might sell it and just buy a programmable shift light because of theives, but if I don't then I would like to just know some places to mount the damn thing or any custom ways to build it in a little low profile. (Hard to do with 5" autometer) Anyone have pics of there tach on their 4th gen.

See, the problem is that anyplace you mount the tach so that it's not visible to thieves, it will also most likely not be visible to you, the driver...

For quick glances, the best place is right by the driver's side A pillar (which is why most people mount it there to begin with)...alternately, you could mount it on the dash either to the left or the right of the steering wheel. Mounting to the right might obscure your view of the other gauges (fuel, temp, etc.) so you might not want to mount there.

Someone did mention mounting by the driver's side tweeter cover, and that might work. A totally stealthy place to put it would be down by the steering column (left or right) so that the gauge was facing up...the problem with that is that you'd have to stare into your lap everytime you wanted to check your RPMs.

It sucks to hear that your tach is busted, but you might want to consider selling it for as much as you can, and getting an OEM gauge cluster...or you could sell it and go for a smaller (i.e., not 5") tach. HTH
