need some advice from you fellow honda-tech members have a friend who has a b16 swap in a ek. he wants to know when he puts the cams in what does he have to replace to put these cams in. are the stage 1's a direct drop in or do you have to replace the springs and retainers and valves, or just the springs or what. he has talk to alot of people about this and they are saying different things. he wants to put them in without messing up the valvetrain. what would he need to replace in the valvetrain, after he puts the skunk 2's in thanks. any help would be appreciated.
skunk recommends the springs being replaced. My friend has a B16A2 in his EK hatch with these cams. He has the skunk springs, soon to add the retainers too I believe. They are not necessary, as these cams tend to usually stop making power from 8200-8700rpm depending on how they are tuned.
you dont HAVE to change the valve train... but i highlty recomend it because there will be a chance he will float a valve from high revs and weak springs. and a worse senario... he'll break a retainer and drop a valve. thats not good at all.
the specs on these are pretty cose to the itr's, and i had those for a while in my b16 with no valve train upgrade and i was fine... maybe it was luck.
but either way, springs and retainers are a valuable upgrade.
plus those are probably the best cams for the compression hes got...
