Default Cobalt GT Sport pads questiosn

Just want to discuss about these pads from those who are using them.

They were used to replace my Endless CCX front as they eat up rotors frequently due to wear. When I first put on the GT-Sport was at Summit Point. During one of the session gap, I put them on together with new rotor, and a complete flush with ATS Blue. I went out to bed them in with 60~20x3, 80~40x3. then 60mph LFB.

Then I took my next session lightly as I know these are not really meant for heavy duty track use. Maybe due to the new rotor/pad setup, it felt less stoppable than the already less-padding CCX as I backed off from my usual brake points. After the session ended, a Mustang GT driver came up to me for a little chat, and mentioned that seeing sparkles and smokes coming from my pads, as I just notice some grooves on the new rotors similar to the film transfers on my old ones.

As I got home, I notice how unbearable these pads squeal. They squeal so bad now that it sounds like a bus, and I can't roll down the window as it hurts my ears.
Last night, I was a bit heavy on the brakes to a red light, like maybe 50% pressure, and my friend behind me said sparks from my pad light up the roads like fireworks. I am abit worry now, because having sparks and flames anywhere near the car is no fun for safety issues.

So, anyone has problem with their "better-off" street pads, not just Cobalt, but in general as well. I'm gonna find some time to sand down the pads and rotors, or even cut the rotors to see if it improves.

Also, my car always has problems with brake smoking, sparks or with little flames afte hot laps (With CCX as well, but it had no sparkle but flames buring on top of my rotor). Is there anything else I should check like calibers or brake line..etc?

The consistent sparks under moderate/hard braking are a concern for me, as is the "unbearable" sqeualing. I would certainly like to hear about the rest of your brake hardware setup, as well as your chassis setup. When you get the chance, please do call at 877.562.9237 so we can review your setup in detail, and determine the cause of the issues you are having.

Best regards,

Andie

I have been using GT Sports on the street for about 6000+ miles now including 5 autox events. I have not experienced any of the issues you listed. I'm getting very good pad wear and there is no noticeable wear on the rotors (although rotors are so cheap I don't really consider rotor wear to be a big deal). The rear pads squeal a little bit when they get warm, but I'm not using shims or grease.

Overall, for a street/autox pad, they perform excellent. Better bite than the Ultimates and R4S I've used previously, and they withstand higher temps (I use GT-Sports in the rear when I go to the track and they are still in great shape). If you are having problems with the pads, there is most likely another factor to consider. You should definitely call Andie and he can help you diagnose the problem.

I installed the GT-sports together will new Brembo rotors and stock calipers, and I'm really surprised at what you're describing. Cobalt told me that these pads would squeek, but to be honest they rarely do.

I've done 2 AutoX events and maybe 1500 street miles. The combination has been very consistent also, they don't squeek anymore than they ever did in the beginning (which was only on very intensive hard stops). For light street braking they're usually silent. Can't say anything about whether I had sparks though.

I have experienced some pretty harsh squealing from my gt-sport pads as well int he rear but they still stop pretty damn good.

I think I might over drove them at the track and causing all the after-effects.

My setup is Cobalt GT-Sport up front, Endless CCX in the rear, Cobalt Rotors, Stock suspension, stock calibers, stock rubber brakelines, ATS Superblue and Stock wheesl driven on S-03.

However, the front calibers were painted in red by the previous owner, and the paint wore out quickly as I track the car, this might cause the flame that I was talking about. Too bad WTDR.com is down, or else I can upload the video.

Anyway, I will sand down the pads and rotors, is this proper?

P.S> as some said above it squeal at intensive hard braking, mine is the reverse. It only squeal on VERY light pressure braking, such as during bumper to bumper traffic.

I just finished installing a set a few hours ago, and just got back from my breakin drive.

Granted, I've only driven an hour on them, and only braked hard 6 times, my impression so far is, I'm amazed how much better bite than stock they have. I wasn't expecting a noticeable difference. I had a small squeal maybe twice so far. Not loud. I also used the anti squeal stuff on the pads before installing, so that may have helped a bit.

By the charts on Andie's site, they are comparable to Hawk HP+ Are the Cobalt GT Sport pad really comparable to Hawk HP+? Are they better or feel the same as the Hawks?
