I heard this is good...some additional filter attached to ur CAI???
Okay... i was at a car show.. and then I saw this guys car.. it had a cold air intake.. which is normal.. and then.. he had like a palm sized k&n filter.. really really small attached to the engine or intake near the intake manifold...
it was either on the CAI or the ***.. wut is the word.. the tube that sticks into teh CAI.. somewhere there...
but basically... i heard that thing filters out bad emissions into your engine bay instead of your engine and is supposedly better...
question is.. WHAT IS IT REALLY? and umm if it makes a improvement in performance i wanna build one.. so where do you buy the filter? it looks like a k&n one.. but it was just soooooo small... so i dunno if it is k&n...
and ummm HOW TO YOU BUILD THAT?

Are you talking about where the PCV is routed from the nipple on the valve cover then into the CAI?Was the little filter actually on the valve cover? If so I would stay away from it.If you want it to look nice just route some silicone hose to the CAI.You can get silicone hose in all sorts of colors so it will match your car.
Its a breather filter, and it can be useful and serve its purpose, but really isnt something that you should get excited about adding...dont expect any surprises from it.
I started a thread a while back asking about the breather filter. There are many opinions on whether or not these are good or bad. I think they look pretty nice, but they don't add any power at all. Basically, from what I understood, is that burnt fumes come into the CAI and back into the engine through the hose that connects the valve cover to the CAI to extinguish the bad fumes. The breather just stops it from going in there. Someone says that burnt oil actually comes through that hose as well and that with the breather valve, you can get oil all over your hood. Some guy on this board built a little resevoir to catch this burnt oil rather than it going back into his TB or all over his hood. Search for breather filter or something like that to see the full thread.
they are called mini breathers, all they do for your engine is looks, it's all looks, your not gaining any HP from that thing, don't bother with those, just a waste of money.....

actually...air goes from the INTAKE into the HEAD...the engine uses the fresh air for something or other...so yeah, just leave it like it is...its better for your engine anyway

what you really want to avoid is putting a breather on your intake tube. i've actually seen people do this.
also note that there's a (good?) chance you won't pass visual inspection (smog) if you have a breather filter on your valve cover.
there are some who argue that this mod makes sense when you have a JRSC...

I have one, but my car is turbo and there is no real non-pressurized source to connect the valve cover to.

I have one jsut cause....
I have a K&N breather, no power gain, just a mess once and a while.
how much are catch cans?
worth the investment?

yeah, used up air and somtimes oil can come out from that valve breather thingy. so, to prevent the oil and bad air from entering the intake, and back into the engine, people put a breater filter on the valve cover. then they block the hole on the intake to prevent the intake from sucking in non-filtered air.
